Quick question about the Swiftech MCP655-B and GPM

Hello,

I just wanted to clarify something about this pump - I have bought the -B version a while back and am looking at the specs because I want to upgrade my build. I know this isn't the PWM model - the Swiftech website says that the pump puts out about 317 GPH, which measures at around 5.2GPM - does this mean that the pump puts out just about 5GPM when it is on, since it is now a PWM pump?

Looking at the watercooling sticky and the "What can my pump handle" thread at overclock.com - I should have about 2.99 head pressure and the same sticky says that at 1GPM, the MCP655-B will handle about 3.25 PSI.

Since I don't have the PWM model, I am guessing I will be more than covered by this since it will be running at around 5 GPM all the time?

The MCP655-B is typically locked at #4 out of 5 settings that is available which is still quite high on the performance curve of the D5 Vario.

I've never been a fan of PWM pumps - there's no real reason to have your pump speed vary when you should put that to work for the fans on the radiator cooling the system. Pumps are nearly silent when operating correctly so noise levels shouldn't drive PWM pump usage.

The flow rate will be decreased by elbows and joints on your loop so when the loop is on it will be having numerous drops. The high GPM won't be the only factor of how much dissipated heat , some AIO only have ~0.5GPM and they do fine. You can find more insight at www.thermalbench.com and www.extremerigs.com
