Hey I think my modem needs an upgrade but I'm not sure if the one my ISP says I can swap for is better, worse or the same. Can some one please help me compare these two modems?

The two modems are Motorola SBV5222 and the Arris TM822.

I hear one of the deciding factors for modems is if they are Docsis 2.0 or 3.0, but I'm not too sure what that means.

Thanks a bunch to anyone who can help!

Info on Motorola modem is here:

Solution

The Motorola operates on the DOCSIS 2.0 standard while the Arris uses 3.0.

DOCSIS 3.0 is capable of much higher connection speeds, so that alone should be a major consideration.

The Arris also has a gigabit Ethernet port, another important factor if your subscribed speed is over 100Mbs.

In any case, the Arris is the more current and capable modem of the two.
