I just playing Morrowind for the PC, and I'm wondering about patches. Should
I download and install all of them or should I just play until I think I
need them?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, install the patch(es), they only fix things!

Much better to play through the game relatively bug free (and there are a
few niggly little wrong things anyways) instead of coming across an
un-patched bug and it maybe messing up your game.

either way is acceptable. The patches fixes bugs and
problems that can result in crashes. But most of these
problems are triggered by certain quests. Most - not
all. You can play it safe and install them, or you can
wait and see.

The tribunal and bloodmoon updates the previous
game. If you install morrowind and then, immediately
tribunal, it will be unneccessary to install the morrowind
patches, as the tribunal addon will do that automatically

And similarly, if you install Morrowind plus the addons:
Tribunal and Bloodmoon at the same time, you will only
need the latest patch for Bloodmoon

But ... it is possible to play through the game without
feeling the need for the patches at all. I did it once -
but then again, I never joined the mages guild but
only the telvanni great house, and I joined neither the
thieves guild, the fighters guild nor the imperials.

My only affiliations were the telvanni, the ashlanders,
the temple and the imperial cult ... and the blades.

I would say install em all immediately since there are also features
in the patches - the original version of Morrowind for instance does
NOT contain a yellow line for the enemy's current hit status.

As he says most of the patches are to fix buggy quests so if you don't
beware.

Also, Tribunal and Bloodmoon both add features notably the latter.
Without Bloodmoon you cannot annotate your map for instance.

I have heard that the Game of the Year edition includes all this
standard but I don't know for sure.

Finally, if you are going to be installing Tribunal (non-GOTY edition)
you need to install it BEFORE Bloodmoon, not vice versa.

Thanks
I installed the one patch available at Morrowind.com. It said do not install
if you've already installed Tribunal expansion. Does that mean that I cannot
install Tribunal or Bloodmoon later?

How do you scramble your E-mail address

No, you can install Tribunal and/or Bloodmoon whenever you like. That patch
you installed is probably the one that is included in the Tribunal game
along with other fixes, so if you install Tribunal you no longer need the
'Morrowind' patch, you will need the 'Tribunal' Patch AFTER you install
Tribunal. And in the same way, you will need the Bloodmoon patch but ONLY
after you install Bloodmoon.

The scenarios/games were released in this order: 1 - Morrowind, 2 -
Tribunal, 3 - Bloodmoon.

There are three 'named' patches, one for each scenario, Morrowind Patch,
Tribunal Patch, Bloodmoon Patch. Only patch what you have installed. You
can install any expansion later and then patch/update with the relevant
patch.

If you're using Outlook Express, on your main tool bar go to ... Tools >
Accounts > select the 'News' tab ... highlight your news server and select
'Properties' and in the first details box you'll see ...

E-mail address: & Reply address: ... type something else in here as it
appears that news group posts are sometimes used to gather e-mail addresses
for spammers :-/

You may need to use a fake address with a @ in it so O.E. still lets you
access newgroups ... eg. fred@home.not 🙂

Ive got GOTY and it is as you have described. THe Morrowind CDs (including
the editor) plus a Tribunal and A Bloodmoon CD....its got a combined
manual which consists of the Morrowind Manual, and a couple of pages each
for the two expansions.

And Im still just getting to grips with the game at lvl 10....currently
stuck trying to find someone's husband after rescuing from a temple (says
he trying to ID the quest for those in the know without leaving
spoilers)...just can't find the person....

Thank you for you're responses. I'm sure this isn't the last of my
questions.

Without using spoilers you're probably looking on the wrong side of
the ridge - the ridge is quite close and almost directly west from a
major city and I usually fly over that particular ridge but to do so
with an escort requires a semi-long detour.

That help without telling too much?

If the temple you rescued her from is in the NW of Vardenfell her
husband is in the woods next to the road a ways to the east.

And not that far as the crow flies. As the adventurer walks is a
different matter :)
