Quick Ryzen 1700 or 8600k Question

Please could someone help. I’d like a CPU for gaming. I can’t quite afford the 8700k. I have a 3440x1440 monitor and 1080ti.
I play stuff like wow, rainbow 6, oculus rift, battlefield etc etc.
Which one would be best?

ryzen 2700 should fit there, that resolution will be much more GPU bound.

Do you already have a CPU cooler? If so, I'd recommend a Ryzen 2600, if not, a 2600X (main difference is the 2600X comes with a better stock cooler, which seems to be adequate for a bit of overclocking).

At higher resolutions, the GPU is more important than the CPU.
While the 8600K is better under normal circumstances, at that resolution there probably is very little to no difference in gaming performance.

The Ryzen 1700 (or 2700) is probably a better choice in this case. More cores, more threads which help with multitasking and AMD promised support until 2020.
So in 2 years you can buy a brand new CPU and toss it into any current AM4 motherboard.

WOW (and other games) will still run heaps better on the intel system.
