Hey Guys Been thinking about some new upgrades and at first i had my mind set on just buying a killer Northwest Falcon FX 55 system.

But now that i think of it, The system im running now is (the one in my signature) a7n8x xp2800 1GB mem, isn't 2 bad, but i had it for alittle more then 2 yrs and instead of blowing 3400$+ on a northwest, i figured i'd just buy a brand new MOBO/CPU combo and get a nice graphics card.

My questions are this.

#1, if i go with the FX-53, which would most likely be my best choice of motherboard. (might actually wanna go PCI-Express for Video Card)..but it's not a super big deal.

#2 the memory im running now, this corsair.. 1GB will that work with the new Setup? or will i need diff memory?

Thanks for the help fellas... so far from reading alot of people like the msi or the asus av8?... im not really fond of via chipsets, i really like how nFORCE turned out for me the first time, but if VIA changed there TUNE and is actually putting up some great hardware i might give'em a shot.

Thanks for all your help.
Rob.

Your current memory will work with new CPU/mobo.

For best price/performance ratio, get A64 3400+ (2.4 Ghz, 512k L2 cache, single channel DDR400) with MSI K8N Neo Platinum and GeForce 6800GT.

You're going against the notion I described to darko21 that none of us were likely to buy an Opteron class CPU (FX-53). nVidia is still on top of things, offering the nForce3 250 and nForce4 series chipsets, you can read about them everywhere.

is there a way i can find out if this MSI board you mentioned has any conflicts what so ever with certain memory modules? Because when i built my current system for MONTHS i was re-ordering, and spend TONS of time figureing out my damn CPU problem (can't run it at normal 2800+ speeds, it will hang on boot, only lets me run it @ 2200+ speeds... it's because these Corsair XMS's have a problem with ASUS board i have (a7n8X del) like the first model...

anyway i just don't wanna run into that problem again

thanks fellas

4000+ is rebadged FX-53. Only difference betweern 4000+ and 3800+ is extra 512KB L2 cache which has no practical performance advantage. The only advantage 3800+ has compared to 2.4 GHz 3400+ is dual channel memory controller. At most cases, it doesn't have any effect on performance. In some cases it helps, but not way below the level to justify extra 400+ PR and the extra money.

ok so then since NEWEGG is having a TURKEY BLOWOUT SALE on the FX-53 RETAIL for only 575$!! should i go with this CPU then?

because the 3800+ = 630$ and the 4000+ = 715$...... so then it's safe to say i should go with the FX-53 from newegg... peformance should BLOW away my current system correct?

PR? performance/price Ratio?... not sure what your post said..

but i was just stating that since the 4000+ is a rebagged FX-53.. and the 53 performs better (from the benches i seen) and newegg has it for cheaper, im guessing i just get the fx-53 then.

I've heard a lot of talk about the Winchester cores being the new king of OC for AMD chips. I've heard talk of the 3000+(which runs at 1.8ghz if I'm not mistaken) OCing to 2.5 even 2.6ghz. does the FX-53 OC anything like that, you're talking about shelling out a lot of money, it better
