I've been mucking around with adding switches which undervolt my fans (to 5V from 12), for the sake of noise.
I've only done the Casefans at the moment (2 intake, 1 exhaust), and plan to also do the CPU, Gfx card(Going to replace the stupid blower in my VGA Silencer with an 80mm Fan), and modify the twin PSU fans.
There's a definite reduction in noise, and I reckon it'll be near silent when I've got the other Switches wired in , but of course Temps are a bit of an issue. With the heating on, and windows shut my Case temp will go as high as 37C or so, and my CPU about 59C - under constant load as I'm always running Folding@home.
CPU is a T-bred 'B' 1700+ @ 2.2Ghz (11x200), 1.55V. Cooler is a Volcano 7+ with the original 70mm fan replaced with an 80mm one (but with no special ducting/converter - it's just kind of bolted on top so 'overlaps' the HS a little, and isn't that efficient really..)
I would like to replace the CPU cooler, but not sure what would be a good price/Performance one. I'm very tempted by the Swiftech MCX462-V, but it's a bit pricey. Any ideas what sort of CPU Temp I'd get with that beast on there? Or is there a better cooler which costs a lot less?
I don't really want to reduce my CPU Fan RPM if it's going to push the poor thing over 60C.
