I'm having a hard time figuring out a very quiet case to get. Any time I think I've found one, either someone contradicts others on it being quiet or it is bashed about something else.

I sadly had already bought the P400 (not P400S) case, without realizing that some say it's too loud and also that the fans that come with it aren't good enough.

I want a case which is both quiet and cool enough with only the default fans. I don't overclock, use multiple gpus, etc...

I am putting in a 2700x cpu, x470 mobo, evga 1070 ti gpu, samsung 970 pro ssd, 1 or 2 7200rpm HDDs.

IDEALLY, I would like as short of a case as can handle all of that while being cool and quiet and IDEALLY would like a 5.25" for an optical drive.

If some case is just so great and is taller or doesn't have a place for an optical drive, I'd still consider it, though. My x470 is an atx one, so I'd have to sell that if I get a small case, probably...

If only I knew I wanted a different case sooner... the R5 case sounds perfect except for the size being large... but now it's OOS in most places or expensive. The NANO S sounded like it would be a good one and it comes in a mini-itx version... but no 5.25" and people say dust gets in the top.

Honestly, even the TOP cases have people reviewing them as being horrible... so it's hard to know what to do. I am using a prebuily pc that I ahve sued for years and years and it's usually silent. So it is very annoying that apparently many cases are not going to be quiet.

Fractal Design's R6 or S2 chassis are some you could look at. You could look at NZXT's H XXX(500/700) series of cases or the previous heavy hitter, the S340 though you will have to ditch the 5.25" approach.
I'm not absolutely determined to have the 5.25. I have an external BR burner. Just would be nice to be able to stop having to connect that. :)

Also, if I get a case that is under 12 inches tall, I could probably put it on this shelf I have, which is convenient. But it's going to be a big ordeal if I have to sell not only my case, but my motherboard. And as long as I've had these parts sitting here, I'm tempted to even sell the cpu and switch to intel...

The R6 says it has 1 5.25", but the case sure looks like a flat front with nothing there. You have to take a door off or something?

I'm trying to get a case that goes on sale for $100 or els,s if possible. I see the R6 on sale for $120, but sure would be nice if something were to go on sale more like $80. And so far most of the other recommendations have their own negative reviews. That's what is so frustrating is no matter how high you go, some people say every case has some big issue.

Also, I'd "rather" not have a side window. Just like the 5.25" bay and the short size, it's not 100% mandatory, though.

Another thing that annoys me is it seems like all of the well built cases are designed for people wanitng to use radiators and overclock and put 100 drives in them. Anyone who deosn't need all of that is either stuck paying for the unused space or getting an inferior case.

I wish newegg would put the r5 on sale... The one model they have elft is the one I would want, ie no side window. But right now it's as expensive as the r6. And the R5 has gone for under $80 a few months ago. If they put it at $80, I'd just get it, even though I'd rather have a shorter case.

As if picking a case isn't enough of a headache, I just calculated how much shipping will be to SELL my case, and if it's shipped across the country, it would be almost $50! That would be a waste of time. Once I pay ebay fees, paypal fees, and shipping, and sell it low enough to get bought, I'd lose a lot despite the fact that I only paid $26 for the case.

I'd about have to list it for a higher price than I expect, allow offers, and then sell it only to someone close to me, as I saw shipping it close via USPS would cost only around $16.
