I just built a system around a 3.2 gig P4 Prescott, and I've realized the supplied Intel fan gets obnoviously loud after the chip starts to roast. Are there any effective quiet fans that I can put on this oven? The noise level is out of control. The system is built on a DFI Lan Party Pro 875B motherboard, and housed in an Enlight 2400P4R rackmount case. Thanks for any help with this.

I dunno how "silent" they are but thermaltake has a highly rated "silent boost" series you might want to check out. Same company also has a fanless heatsink that sells for about 50 bucks and claims to be compatable with those P4s, however I can't vouch for how well these actually work. You could also get watercooling which is expensive but you can't rule it out when it comes to a Prescott 😛

why would you care about noise for a rackmount ? you sit next to your cabinet or what ? Anyway, you may want to check out coolers from Zalman

Zalman ALU heatsink is very quiet and a Antec super lanboy case is a nice combo for those building new stuff for Intel/AMD. The lanboy has a 120mm fan in front and back for high air flow through the case.

The fan grills on the lanboy are honey combed large holes, nicely done. Not the old small hole crap on other cases w/ 80mm fans.

I use the lanboy case and it's an awesome case. a few minor flaws with it, but none the less awesome.
