i need advice on a quiet cooler. i have a fop32 with the stock y.s.tech 60mm fan. it puts out 26.1cfm at 4200rpm and 35dB. i'm looking for a cooler to bring me down below 25dB if possible. maybe a low speed 70mm? anyway, i've got a real heater...a t-bird 1.33ghz which has thermal dissipation of 70watts. not looking to overclock, as it seems theres not much overhead anyway.
also, can anyone recommend some quiet case fans also? 80mm also in the 2XdB range...
thanks,
nausicaa

get a 80mm heatsink (swiftech mcx462, alpha pal8045, thermalright slk800) and get a quiet fan (panaflo's are really quiet....or an adjustable one like thermaltake smartfan2)

slk900 (92mmfan) is also an option...

are panaflos quieter than vantec stealth? which would you recommend?

I was looking for the same thing, so I bought a volcano 9. You can adjust it and at the lowest setting it gives off 17db, and you can adjust it to where the noise is ok but still cools off some.

I have read that the panaflos are not only quieter but have a higher cfm.. I have been looking but I cant find the article.. sorry. I agree with the posting above mine bigger slower fans are the answer. All the HS mentioned are good stuff. I do know that the Volcano works well with your chip.. I have one on a 1.2 T-Bird. That HS comes with a couple of options. It comes with a reostat so you can adjust the fan manualy, and a thermal probe that you can use some thermal epoxy and put under your CPU and it will adjust the fan automaticly depending on CPU temp, or full on mode. Good luck. Take care.

Hang in there. It can only get better!

According to LHGPooBaa Panaflo's indeed have one of the highest CFMs and the lowest noice. And he did some comparising between other low-noice models.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on 😱

I've also seen articles that say Panaflow is quiet and Vantec Stealth isn't that stealthy. Though I own neither one. I have an 80mm Evercool that is supposedly about 30dB and was much cheaper than Panaflow.

I've heard that the Vantec Aeroflow is supposed to be pretty good and quiet emphisis on HEARD I don't have it I'm still trying go decide what would be a good heatsink and fan for my computer I'm building (athlon 2800) that could do good cooling so I can overclock it without worrying but at the same time not sound like a vacum cleaner
