I'm considering this build:

Budget Range: about the same as this build

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, browsing, work (Word / Excel stuff)

Parts Not Required: Mouse, keyboard, monitor, disk drive.

Parts Preferences: I have been recommended an ASUS mobo, but don't really mind. Would like it to be equipped for best future upgradeability (PCI-E and USB 3.0).

Overclocking: Not planning on it.... yet.

SLI or Crossfire: No.

Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050

Additional Comments: I would like a quiet PC. What should I buy to get this?

OCZ is a pretty unreliable SSD brand. I recommend the Crucial M4 128 GB SSD. It's controller is more reliable than the OCZ's.

You dont really need i7 2600k for gaming. For like $20 more, get the i7 2600k as it overclocks better even though your not overclocking. You can save some cash by going with i5 2500k. But its up to you. 16gb of ram is not needed, 8gb is enough

I went with a HAF-X when upgrading my rig several months ago. It is a remarkably quiet case. I use it with a V6GT cpu cooler from Cooler Master, dual Asus GTX 570s with reference coolers and my good old Enermax Galaxy 1000w.

Whenever friends visit, they are all very much impressed with how quiet my system is, even when running games.

Why a micro MoBo in a giant full tower case ?

Processor: - Intel Core i7 2500k - Is the extra 0.1 GHz worth $100 to you ? The hyperthreading won't help you with gaming so if the answer to the previous question is no, then I'd get the 2500k .... invest the savings in a better GFX card

Graphics - XFX Radeon HD 6870 - 2GB The 2GB is wasted on anything less than 2560 x 1440 ...invest the savings in a better GFX card .... I'd suggest a factory OC'd 560 Ti

6870 gets 434 fps in single card configuration, 701 fps in CF ...in Guru3D's game test suite.
560Ti (900Mhz) gets 495 fps in single card configuration, 862 fps in SLI ...in Guru3D's game test suite.

If the above savings allow you to make the jump, grab it .... if not, the 6870 is the next best thing.

SSD - OCZ Vertex 3 Series SSD - 2.5″ SATA-600 120GB - OK, but I;'d look at one of the tier 3 units from here:

Case / PSU - The 600CX is a bit light for CF / SLI on anything bigger than the 6870 and not even for that if you are overclocking the GPU's and CPU. For quietness ya may wanna look at the Antec CP-850 which is the quietest PSU I have yet to encounter .... it's 10.0 jonnyguru performance rating and extremely low price don't hurt.

I'd pair it with an Antec 1200 V3, P193, P183 or DF-85 ..... all four of these cases fit the CP-850, all 4 provide excellent cooling (all the ones I have built have the adjustable fans at lowest speed setting). And their quietness and cool running is quite remarkable as a pair.

The 750W version had its fan speed measured at 705RPM at maximum load and this is in line with Super Flower Golden Green units of similar wattage.

RAM: Kingston HyperX blu - 2x4GB DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 CL9

Did I miss anything or make any obvious mistakes? Should I go for 1600MHz RAM?
