[SOLVED] Quiet self powered external hard drive?

I just built a new system that runs super quiet and it's just reinforcing how loud my 4TB WD My Book is, so I'm curious: is there such a thing as a quiet but still self powered external desktop hard drive in the 4TB+ range?

(The My Book is 5 years old now in case that's relevant. It's still a perfectly healthy drive, just loud and always has been.)

How, where, etc. is the My Book located?

Try moving it around some and setting it on a soft pad of some sort.

Will not necessarily make the driver quieter per se but may mitigate and dampen hearing the noise.

That said:

Consider an external SSD drive.

Aside from using an SSD for storage (which is silent past any fans that may be in an enclosure), you can also connect your drive to the router USB port and access the files that way. Most routers these days have a network storage option.
