Quietest PSU Available

Hello all,

In your opinion, what is the QUIETEST PSU around right now, in the 750-850W range?

Certainly one of the platinum rated supplies with the 'fanless' operation. Long as you keep it under 30% or so it won't even kick the fan on.

Corsair AX860i or the Seasonic equivalent S-860XP2

Any PSU that has Hybrid FAN mode, basically until it reaches about 50% load the fans won't spin up

If you want a quiet PSU you just need to make sure the wattage is adequate and the brand/model is decent, if you do that then the fan should be quiet.

Look for PSUs with something like Seasonic's hybrid silent fan control. Below a certain power draw (and a certain temperature) the fan is turned off. I've seen this from other manufacturers, Seasonic is just an example.

"quietness" shouldn't be a factor when purchasing a power supply. Because if you look at efficiency, quality, appropriate wattage for your system, and proper airflow in the case then quietness just falls in line.

plenty of examples of XFX, seasonic, and pc power and cooling (i owned two) that used aggressive fan controllers with high RPM fans that would make more noise then other brands (even using the same OEM platform but different fans) once the PSU got past 50% labeled wattage

Agree on this one, although I can't hear my PSU fans over my 780's fans while gaming 😛

PC Power and Cooling used to make some of the best for quiet operation. They were bought out by OCZ and are marketed under a new name:

FirePower

However, I have not personally readany reviews of their products under the new name, so I have no idea if the quality has carried over into the new brand.

Maybe check Hardware Secrets for some reviews. They are very good testers and have a long list of PSU reviews.

The EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750/850/1000 are some of the best power supplies out right now. They have good fan controllers which is the OP's original concern, but they also have: 10 YEAR WARRANTY!, Modular, very efficient and aggressively priced. Amazing power supplies.
