Quieting a thermaltake blue orb

I put a Thermaltake blue orb chipset cooler fan on my GeForce2 MX so I can overclock it. I had to lap the fan base because it did not sit flat on the chip, there was a lot of space in the center. So, now it sits flat with minimal space.

I used the two pins to attach the fan since it lined up and I feel some thermal paste would transfer better than the tape. Unfortunately, it makes a lot of noise, especially once it starts. When it heats up a bit, it seems to get quieter. When I try to move the fan (with it off), it doesn't even wiggle on the card, so I would say it's secure. I may try removing that sleeve that fits over the AGP slot that holds the card down in the back where the notch is.

Anyone have any other suggestions. I would like to keep this set-up, but I might just go to using the stock heatsink with a 486 fan screwed onto it.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, but I found the problem

I was looking at the fan and I noticed that the bottom of the fan is in direct contact with the adjacent PCI slot. No wonder it made a racket. Now I have to figure out how to lap down the fins on the bottom to provide me with some clearance.

Thanks again

thanks man. I just checked mine and found the same thing though mine was still quite silent. I filed the edge of the fins leaning on the pci slot about 1.5mm and the vibes were gone.
