Quit memory resident programs on toshiba laptop

I have just installed Windows 98 on toshiba satellite. I repeatedly get the message quit one or more memory-resident programs. How do I do that?step by step PLEASE, I need that.

what model satellite?
do you have more than 512mb of RAM currently? It won't go well if you do.
