gamingDepends on what you are going to be using it for.
is it worth upgrading from i5 4690k (gpu gtx 1070ti) to r 5 1600 or is it better to go to 3600It is still capable of gaming, but it definitely is starting to show its age a bit, with high end graphics cards. If your GPU is on the weaker side, CPU won't matter much.

tnx manWith today's prices, if you can afford it, for a budget setup, and R5 5600 is the way to go. It will allow you to upgrade to a faster gpu, later on, without having to get a new CPU. For modern gaming, any will be superior to that i5.
For the money, this combo is hard to beat.

The Ryzen 5 3600 is definitely faster, but the important thing would be to get you off of that LGA 1150 platform, so if its a big stretch to go to that 3600 over the 1600, just get the 1600, theyre both still much better than your I5. You would also have access to many more upgrade options for the AM4 platform those chips are on, including what is still one of the fastest gaming cpus, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.is it worth upgrading from i5 4690k (gpu gtx 1070ti) to r 5 1600 or is it better to go to 3600
I would see this as a lateral move more than an upgrade. The plus side of this being, according to what motherboard you have or have selected to go with this might be able to update all the way to Ryzen 5xxx. The 4th gen Intel is a dead end in every way, including cost since the i7 retains so much of its value.is it worth upgrading from i5 4690k (gpu gtx 1070ti) to r 5 1600 or is it better to go to 3600

HUB did a revisit on the subject quite some time ago. In modern titles, the R5 1600 can beat a 7600k, due to the 4c/4t limitation.I would see this as a lateral move more than an upgrade. I don' think anyone would doubt that, if nothing else the bus and RAM speeds being higher along with the extra cores. In spite of that performance difference, this is still a chip to replace in 2-ish years assuming the desire for W11 support. This aspect leads into the real bonus territory based on my comments about updating on a compatible motherboard.HUB did a revisit on the subject quite some time ago.
