Hi guys, just wondering if upgrading from the fx-6300 with a GTX 1060 6gb to the R3 2200G would be worth it and if it would bottleneck? These are the parts I am purchasing: https://www.pccasegear.com/sc/qBG

The main question I have is will it bottleneck? Because my fx-6300 bottlenecks my 1060 terribly. Also, how big would the performance gain be? Thanks so much and any answers are greatly appreciated! :)

If you already have a 1060 there's no reason to get the 2200G, it would be better to change to a Intel i3-8100. Yes the 2200G has pretty decent integrated graphics but with a 1060 they are pointless, so the stronger CPU performance of the 8100 would be a better pick.

Remember though with the 2200G or 8100 it will require a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM.

The 2200G is nearly 60% faster than the FX-6300. It would be a sizable upgrade for you and it won't bottleneck a 1060 6GB. They are just about perfectly balanced for each other.

The i3 is another option, but it is 20% more expensive (at msrp) for about 4% more performance over the 2200G... and you have to consider the platform you are buying into as well. Sure, Intel boards are a little cheaper on average, but you should also look at memory costs, upgradability, and overclocking (if you are into that). Personally, I'd go with the Ryzen on a B450 motherboard. That way if you decide a CPU upgrade is in your future down the road you can throw a 2600X or 2700X on there and not feel crippled by lack of features... which has happened to me on the lower end Intel boards.

Hi, thanks for your response. If I get that ryzen cpu and overclock it, would it beat the i3?

Won't make a difference. Ryzens get a better boost from faster, dual channel memory, bumping clocks might add a few fps, but you won't see it, it'll be beyond the limits of your monitor. You could get 100fps at stock, 300fps with OC and you'll still only get 60 from the monitor.

The 8100 will be better overall since they are both 4 core cpus. The best upgrade for Intel on a budget board is the i5 8400, which'll work just fine with a single 8Gb 2400 stick, but the Ryzen higher ability will be offset by that same slow 2400 single stick, Ryzens prefer fast dual channel ram.

Yeah the i3 is way more expensive than the 2200g, at least in Australia it adss to like $60 more including gst and shipping, etc. So I should defo go with the 2200G over the intel with a b450 board ??

Dual channel ram & as fast as possible for ryzen .
Otherwise you'll lose a lot of performance.

The 2200g is a decent upgrade for you, 60% performance improvement is a massive overerestimate though, 30-40% maybe , minimums & fps drops, are where youll notice the differenec more than anything else.

I personally would wait until you can afford a ryzen 2600 because its a cpu that will, likely last you 5 years plus.

Would RAM speed still matter if I'm not using the APU? Only the 1060? Thanks.
