Question Asus Rog Stix X470 F Gaming Bios Update Adventure

Unfortunately 5204 bios
And yes chipset drivers updated fisrt.
Which may have started my issue.
G.Skill Flare X 3200mhz 2x8 16gb on Qvl
Was running fine NO ERRORS on ryzen dram calculator 3400 fast.
Corsair h110i with stock fans replaced with 2x140mm Noctua 110cfm 3000rpm version in exhaust position in a
Thermaltake F31 Suppressor case.
970 evo plus 500gb m.2 Os drive win 10 home 1903
Crucial mx500 m.2 500gb in sata mode 2nd m.2 slot runs as sata on this mobo when both are populated plus the drive itself.
Samsung 860 evo 250gb ssd
2 x pny cs1311 120gb ssd's
Seagate 3tb hdd
Zotac gtx 1070 ti 8gb
Currently a Corsair cx650m 80+bronze psu which has been in since before upgrading in Oct 19 to ryzen from fx8350.
I have a Corsair cx750m and just haven't had a chance to put it in yet.

So specs out of the way.
I started having problems with Ghost Recon Wildlands crashing to desktop and was trying to get it figued out using memtest86, windows mem diagnostic,
P95, finding nothing out of the ordinary, so uninstalling the game and reinstall on a different drive still didn't fix it. Also hit the ubisoft ghost info pages everything i tried didn't help.
So decided to update the bios and thats where it all went down hill fast.
So ever since the bios and or chipset drivers update I have had a very hard time getting my g.skill past 3200mhz where it was running 3400 fast with ryzen dram calculator.
It took mem training and 1.42v to 1.44v to even boot even though it throughs errors so I have it set at 3200 fast no errors.
I was getting a cinnabench score of 1440 - 1462
Now with xfr, pbo level 2 scaler x10 and +200mhz set I only get a 1350 - 1377 max.
It doesn't clock up as high as it did on the 4602 bios. And if I could flashback to 4602 I would in a heartbeat but I don't want to take the chance of bricking the mobo as the only asus am4 x470 mobo's with bios flashback are the rog crosshair's

So in the mean time I have been experimenting with bios Ocing it.
I have tried the xfr / pbo / vddcr offset mode but still not getting what seems to work without mem errors or Bsod's or just plain out blank screens for what i know this unit was capable of doing on the old bios.

I have managed to get it to 4.125ghz
With LLC level 5
Vddcr cpu voltage override set @1.38125v
Xfr/ pbo's set
running 3dmark firestrike it will boost up just over 4.2ghz which scored 17854
In cinebench r15 it's ranging 1406 to 1415.
Doing more occt test now you will see in the pic.
I will also be doing realbench and p95.
Please keep in mind this unit is in a warm room when looking at the temps and within 1c higher from what i was doing prior bios update.

Would someone please look at the pics and see what you guys think of this oc.

From the asus rog strix x470 f gaming owners thread on Asus forums people have done that and bricked the board.
Something about the 16 mb and 32 mb space and reverting back.
My thoughts are getting these voltages checked for this oc run it waiting for maybe? Asus to put out another update Hopefully fixing the issue that is going on with the 3000 update causing performance
Issuse's for the 2000 series cpu's.
If the next 1 doesn't address the issues i still have 2 fx systems running.
Buy a 3600x and new ram put it on this board and buy a Msi b450 pro carbon which has bios flashback and put the 2600x and the g.skill flare x 3200 which is on the qvl on it and that would upgrade my son's fx8350.

It just now passed a asus realbench stress test of 8hrs at 8gb of ram used.
Temps didn't go over 77c and averaged 65c over 8 hrs per hwinfo64.

Yeah sadly the newer BIOS versions with any AGESA newer than 1.0.0.6 do NOT work very well with a 2000 Series CPU.
People reported similar issues with my Asus ROG Strix B450 Gaming MB.
Which is exactly why I am still using BIOS version 1201.
Hopefully a future update (with a new AGESA version) will fix the issues with the 2000 series CPU and the related RAM issues on our motherboards.

So from not so great of pics transfered for some reason does this oc seem ok voltage wise?
There is a concern of the vddcr on load of 145v I'm hoping that is normal underload
Where i have it set in bios @1.38125v or 1.38750v seems the best.
It passed 4hrs worth of Occt ver v5.3.2 the newest and 8hrs of asus realbench stressing, and running aida64 now with
95% ram allocated Cpu stress, fpu. Cache and system memory checked with no avx and temps staying 65c.

So far this is the best i have been able performance wise since the bios update.
Asus has not even updated the qvl for this mobo since February they are definitely behind other manufacturers atleast in my book.
And will most likely not be part of my son's
Upgrade from his fx8350.
If i can keep it where it's at then income tax time i may do what was listed above
3600x and ram for me and a msi b450 pro carbon using the 2600x and flare x for my son.

Update 4 hrs aida64 showed no issuse's i could see.
Lowered LLC to level 4 rerunning OCCT
45mins in max temp 75.5 in a warm room so temps are in reason and have been prior to the bios update.
Hwinfo64 showing under a occt load
Cpu core voltage 1.362
Vddcr cpu 1.428
I just need some opions on the readings to other 2600x's /2700 or x , that are oc'd if I'm in the ball park.
I only get 34 to 48 hour home every week so some of the test runs are on the short side with a longer run over night i may try p95 tonight with custom setting that darkbreeze had a op use on another thread.
Those settings was
512k. 4096. 15 min fft and about 12 - 13 gb ram for a 16gb system with the avx's disabled.
On a 3-4 hr run it has had no issuse's so far.

So far this room this unit is in isn't to bad but it it's only 9:46 am mountain time
With a high to today forecasted for 92f.
The large data set may be ran over night.

For 3200 fast for my b-dies.

Just keeping an eye on this thread to see how it goes for you.
I'm hoping to see you get a Good Stable OC.
I will say you last post lists settings very close to mine for 4GHZ on my 2600 (non-x).

PS
I ordered a 3700x which should be here today or tomorrow so I probably won't be OCing it.

Ya I had to give a little more voltage a run on p95 2nd option small fft's all caches max heat resulted in a blank screens x2 about 2 hrs into the run.
So upped it to 1.368?? And now at 1.37500v
Rerunning now.
Temps 75c.
Ambient room temp 80f
Please Let me know how the 3700x goes.
A 3000 maybe my best option for this bios.

I am going to set Optimized Default settings then update my BIOS from 1201 sequentially to 2704.
I plan on clearing the CMOS after each update.
I will post my progress/results here sometime tomorrow.

But just FYI, it took me about a week to get my Ryzen 5 2600 4 GHz OC/RAM OC stable.
PM me if you want me to take some screen shots of my BIOS settings with my 2600 OC before I install and start working with the 3700x.
I can't guarantee that my settings will work for you, but they may help.

Increased Soc voltage back to 1.10v
Vddcr cpu override @1.36875v
Have p95 running 4.5 hrs in on the run 72.8 max temp.

4 runs of cinnabench r15 back to back ranged from 1410 to 1420 the fisrt run was 1410.

Damm p95 just went blank screen.
Upping to 1.37000v rerun p95.

Have you disabled virtualisation in the bios(if you don't need it)?
I've also disabled smt, gave me enough thermal headroom to go from 3.825@1.28 to 4.075@1.356, using less power than I was with smt. It will reduce multithreaded performance but should provide a small boost in most games and feel faster on the desktop web browsing.
I'm using the 2600 with the stealth cooler btw.

My temps are running 71c's to 76c per hwinfo64 ( in a room that was 80f ) running p95 when all of a sudden the screen after 5hrs or sooner just blanks out. No shutdown, no freeze, just blanks out.

From doing some reading from the rog strix x470 f gaming owners forum
In the early days of this mobo there was reports of running p95 and 2 monitoring softwares (using the same sensors) was having issues like what is happening to mine when trying to oc.

So when i get back home Wednesday I will
Uncheck run at startup on my corsair link 4
And reset some settings that seemed to be working @ 4.125 ghz (till i quit closing out corsair link from running in the background) and retry.
There was also reports of p95 failing while having no issuse's running realbench for hours.
So it doesn't seem like I'm that far off from your ghz and voltages with what i was @1.36 to 1.38v range for 4.125ghz.

1 thing that is strange is the way p95 is acting.
No matter what option i run small, large, custom when i start the run all worker windows are blank showing no progress till i stop it then they show up.
Upon resetting the same options then restart it shows the progress of all 12 workers.
It could be p95 it self just crashing even though realbench passes a 8hr stress test of 8gb of my 16gb.
So if i use p95 and it keeps doing what it's doing i will never get a stable oc because we always go back to bios and make changes when it crashes, hangs or has workers fail.
I think I'm going to use Occt for stressing followed up with aida64 then realbench.
 
Update

Disabled corsair link 4 from running at startup.
Disabled xfr/ and what i could of pbo.
Reset voltages 1.36875v. And soc to 1.06v
and lowered ghz to 4.1ghz.
Results
It ran 9 hrs of OCCT medium data set.
High temp 71c average 70c per hwinfo64.
Ran 4 runs of cinnabench r15
Scores ranged from 1417 to 1421
Ran 3dmark firestrike

Lowered voltage to 1.36250v still at 4.1ghz
4 hrs into Occt temp
Hwinfo64 temps 73.1 to 73.9c.
This room is warm 84 to 85f.
Stopping test
Lower voltage to 1.35625v
Running a few realbench runs to test lowered voltage.
Passed 3 runs
But will have to leave shortly and will set to run realbench stress with 8gb. Running now
Would be better on temps because of room temp as the day warms up so does this room. The last time i ran realbench it topped out apprx 65-69c.
If it passes will do Occt over night.

Update
So 4.1ghz @1.35625 is working very good at this time without pbo enabled.
And if it wasn't having pbo enabled causing p95 to just blank screen out, then there could be something to the rog forum users use of 2 monitoring softwares while p95 is running.
Currently corsair link 4 is not running in the background, PBO is disabled, but p95 has been running approaching 8hrs with custom settings 512k, 4096mb, 15min fft's 11264 of ram and avx's disabled with no issuse's.
Temp max 72.4c. Room temp today 84f or 28.9c

And leave this open as there is no real way to choose a clear piece of advice or suggestion that stands out as a fix to a issue caused by a bios update that should have Clearly been labeled Do Not Update To the 5204 update if you are Not Installing a Zen2 Cpu.
