Hey everyone, this is my first thread here. Building a basic gaming computer now, and I am at an impasse at the choice of a video card: My choice is something like this:

http://www.computeruniverse.net/products/90567625/msi-radeon-r7-260x-ocv1-edition.asp
http://www.computeruniverse.net/products/90552783/zotac-geforce-gtx-750-ti.asp

Reading everything, the 750ti manages to outperform the 260x generally, but two things have been bothering me:

1) The 260x has twice the memory, which should help with higher resolutions
2) Some research showed that the 750 is not doing all too well in directx9 (gets killed by the 260), as I saw here: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R7-260X-vs-GeForce-GTX-750-Ti . Though I am not sure how the cards compare to those I presented...

Ultra settings and blaaaaaaaaah are not important, though if you have suggestions that are better than those two, they are very welcome.
Thanks :3

I like your attitude. The pc gaming cimmunity needs more gamers like you and me

I think the 260x is better as it is mantle compatible
Although, the 750ti uses less power(if it is important to you)
In real life situations (such as bf4) the 260x will perform betterin my opinion because of mantle

Lastly, forget benchmark applications as the real world performance is what matters

Well, sure, you have mantle, but then again, on an nvidia card, you have physx. Has mantle shown BIG performance gains so far? I'd love to know, I haven't followed computer guff in a while.

Power isn't extremely important, not to mention that any way I combine parts, I end up with power consumption that is a lot lower than the PSU I'm gonna get offers.

Oh! And thanks for the compliment!

That's a great and very informative video, which actually plays right into my ballpark just about now:

I was digging around a bit more to see how I fit everything into my tight budget, and decided to PERHAPS make a cut in the CPU section. The CPU I am gonna take is technically gonna be a placeholder until the Broadwell i5's are out - the initial plan was for a Pentium G3240, now considering a Celeron G1840, seeing that the performance difference between the two doesn't seem too big...

That cut I think that I am going to make would allow me to get a much better GPU, actually. Looking around the shop I linked in the first post, adding the money saved on the CPU to GPU spending, I could get something along the lines of a R7 265 - which is a far and away better GPU than both, it seems.

Mantle is a nice thing pushing me toward the AMD cards, whichever way I go - in this case, a weaker celeron will be bottlenecking the 265 a bit less than it usually would, until the i5 drops by. Which is not to say I am completely reliant on it being there, which brings me to the below conclusion:

So, TL;DR, a Celeron G1840+R7 265 or a Pentium G3240+R7 260X/Gtx 750ti ? (either CPU will be upgraded to a Broadwell i5 as soon as they're available and affordable)

Thanks for the massive help so far!

Ended up taking a R9 270 on sale. That was great luck :3 Just 9 euros over the price of the 265. Should last me for around 4 years of 60fps gameplay, provided I adjust the quality correctly in the later years :3
