R7 260x causes my screen resolution to change.

So im temporarily running linux until my copy of windows comes in the mail, and i've been unable to install the drivers to my GPU. So i just hooked up my Sapphire Radeon R7 260x and booted up my PC, and the first pop up says "Adjusting Screen resolution." My monitor is 1600 x 900, but with the GPU hooked up, it is set to 1280 x 1024. Now is this a result of not having my drivers installed, or is there something im missing? This is my first ever PC so im not exactly experienced yet.

It is most likely the result of your driver not installed. Sometimes, you don't need to install drivers and sometimes you do. When you can, install the drivers and hopefully it will work.
