Hello. I bought an MSI AMD Radeon R7 260x a few weeks ago, the first week it seemed to be running alright, but then I started getting these crashes from ccc, saying that the display driver had stopped responding. It happens very often (30-40 mins), and it's really annoying. I read that it was something to do with PSU, but i don't think so. Recently in Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: WAW i've been getting these really choppy frames, sometimes laggy input, yet BF3 can run on ultra with no problems (except crashes of course..) here's my full specs:

Biostar A75MG Socket FM1 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600mhz ram (oc'd to 1866mhz)
AMD A8-3870K 3.0 GHz (oc'd to 3.2 ghz)
Raidmax RX-500S 500W ATX12V PSU
And last but not least the thing that is causing all these issues....
MSI AMD Radeon R7 260X 2GB OC'd edition

I've been having the exact same problem with the new desktop I've purchased, same MSI AMD Radeon R7 260x OC edition card and it seems to be something related to the drivers clashing with Windows 8.1. The crashes are more likely to happen on the desktop, funnily enough the graphics-heavy video games often seem to run fine.

Help would be hugely appreciated! It's my first time returning to a Windows desktop after 2 years, so not sure how to approach the problem. Seems to be a common problem with this generation of Radeon cards as far as I can tell.

The temp never gets above 30 degrees Celsius while on the desktop, and during gaming it hovers around 40 degrees Celsius. Do you think adding an extra fan will really help?

I have the exact same problem. Brand new build, Win 8.1, MSI motherboard, AMD Radeon R7 260x video card. I get driver crashes every 30 minutes or so. I upgraded to the latest version of the driver (came out today: 12/3/2013) and that seems to reduce the number of crashes. I'm also not overclocking, and temps seem good.

EDIT:
After playing around with the 13.11 Beta9.5 Driver for a while, the crashes were less frequent, but still there. I've rolled back to 13.10, which seems to work, but has poor performance.

Well, I noticed that there's been no activity in this thread lately... But maybe this helps someone. I had a similar problem with my Sapphire ATI/AMD R7 260x card with the drivers that came on cd in the box. Driver was crashing, resetting. Updating the drivers to any 13.11 WHQL/beta version didn't change much.
What really did the trick was installing the older 13.10 WHQL drivers. Now the performance is pretty solid, gaming experience and Passmark say so.

Sapphire RADEON R7 260X 2GB DDR5
Win 8.1 64 bit

I had this exact problem, in the end I returned the R7 and got an R9 270 which has worked without a hitch. I know not everyone has the option to return their card but all I can advise is it clearly isn't a PSU or a temp issue. The 2nd card I took into the shop and had tested on windows 7 and it ran without a hitch for over an hour so clearly the card wasn't faulty either. I don't know if the problems are caused by the R7 (along with I think the R9 290) being the only cards that actually have a new chip on, maybe AMD probably haven't ironed out the driver issues.

Hi bro.
Try this : open amd catalist control center/CPU Power and set both slider (left slider) on max. My example: 3400MHz-3400MHz
All other setings set to defoults

Installed 13.10 with Asus r7 260x. The frame rate is significantly worse than with the 13.12.
I have black screen issues also.

Got same card only issues i get with it is while running Bf4 on Ultra in multiplayer in 1080p using Mantle and after a few min i get a Mantle error and it crashes the game but runs with less prob in Single player on the same settings. Otherwise its all good, and this card runs super cool no matter the game or even when i overclocked it:) look it could be anything from driver issues to even compatibility with your motherboard so i hope you get your pc sorted out tho

When trying to use this brand new card with dead space 1 & 3 I get messed up fragments about 1 minute in, then the graphics freeze, the screen goes black, the screen comes back and the game pauses. I Un pause and it repeats each time until fully crashing.

Using latest beta drivers downloaded yesterday...
