Hi guys,

So...I'm almost about to throw in the towel, take out my GPU, and just fling it into the wall...only reason I haven't is that I'm planning to sell the card (worst case scenario I can';t get it to work)...or do a bitch fest to XFX to get them to replace me with either a new R7 260x...or a R9 270 😀...or R7 265.

But really, anyways the situation i'm having is this.

Currently:
First, installed new windows 7 genuine, validated, got all the updates np (just did this yesterday)...put in all my board drivers etc...all worked fine....then....

PRIOR to GPU driver installation (R7 260x), it read the R7 260x as Standard VGA driver, each time I reboot during driver installations, and during windows setup, everything went fine...there was no blackout no screen errors no problems at all (can I say my GPU is fine then? I don't know, thats why I'm asking you experts here)....

THEN....did a backup of my windows (was a wise choice)...then instlaled GPU graphics...seemed okay...it asked me to reboot, so i did...BAM...blue screen of death instantly...with some numbers running at the bottom...and i saw specifically like BEFORE (when I had the windows 7 that was fake and was installed by my friend who said it was real when he charged me for it)...the error on the blue screen with the atikmpag.sys error on boot up....then it basically went back to before, it wouldn't boot up...id simply get a black screen...with either keyboard lights on...or/and id get a single beep sometimes...but nothing on my pc...or i'd get nothing at all except fans running..keyboard light would be off...and monitor black....

i have no idea what is going on now. is it my GPU? is it the GPU driver? is it my BIOs not being up to date? my mobo being too old? my PSU (modular)? the PSU cables?

Here's my specs BEFORE and NOW...

BEFORE

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
AMD FX-4350 19 °C
Vishera 32nm Technology
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A97 LE R2.0 (Socket 942) 29 °C
HL269DPB (1920x1080@60Hz)
HD RADEON 6450 1 GB DDR3
931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (SATA) 34 °C
1863GB Seagate Desktop USB Device (USB (SATA))
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95 ATA Device
Realtek High Definition Audio
Thermaltake 500W PSU

NEW PC SPECS

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
AMD FX-4350 19 °C
Vishera 32nm Technology
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A97 LE R2.0 (Socket 942) 29 °C
HL269DPB (1920x1080@60Hz)
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (XFX Pine Group) 41 °C
931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (SATA) 34 °C
1863GB Seagate Desktop USB Device (USB (SATA))
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95 ATA Device
Realtek High Definition Audio
Corsair CS650M 80 gold standard

So really, between old and new, theres only 3 differences...new PSU (Thermaltake 500W to NOW CS650M 80 gold)...new GPU (HD 6450 to a 1 day HD7770 which bugged like mad...to the newly purchased from a reputable store and warranty'd R7 260x)....and newly installed Windows 7 (old one I was tricked I guess by my friend, but I've nuked my drive COMPLETELY and installed a NEW Windows 7 GENUINE and VALIDATED)

What's going on guys? I have no idea, I'm really frustrated, I've been tackling this problem of being unable to boot up or having to restart my PC about 20 times and power on and off etc in order to get it to turn on once or twice, only to have a 50% chance for it to freeze and blue screen or just stop moving or go black.

I've installed the drivers from my CD for the GPU, I've tried to update VIA ASUS site....I've already tried pressing in the cables in my PC to make sure nothing is loose....my PCIe slot worked fine with the HD6450...and I think it is still right? (Since without drivers, it boots up fine...no errors like this...calling my R7 260x Standard VGA Driver)

I don't know how much more detail I can give, I hope it's not too much information, I'm trying ot be as detailed as I can to help with giving enough information.

Is my board too old? I don't think i've got any hardware problems (being too old)...should I just buy a HD 7850? or a GTX 660? or a R9 270? (HD 7850 is 180+tax, GTX 660 is 190+tax, R9270 is 200+ tax)...

Help guys please....🙁

UPDATE

Just wanted to add that...when I check device manager (before...with the old specs...AND before...with the NEW GPU/PSU)...it always shows that it is fine. always says 'the device is qworking properly' etc...so it doesn't even show an error there (which i assume is good...because that means its not my MOBO error?)

I installed the latest 14.xx one from AMD..I did the drivers from my CD (after the clean install which messed up completely...)...prior to wiping I used the CD first...then used the AMD 14.xx too....

I read somewhere about CCC being the issue too

if its not a electrical problem than u should download the 13.11 driver for your gpu and install it after that it will definitely solve the problem if this still doesnot solve the problem than your best bet will be to replace the card and get a nvidia 750 ti its the most stable card in the market right now>>>

u have the exact link? maybe i keep downloading it wrong but ever AMD driver ive downloaded has given me that same problem with the atikmpag.sys bsod black screen etc

atikmpag.sys is a driver problem i think your gpu is not compatible with beta driver as long as amd does not release a special fix for
this gpu so you should go to the xfx wbsite and download 13.11/13.12 driver from their website not from amd and then give it a try
if not try out the sapphires one http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=2040&lid=1 and download the 13.12 driver from their website and after downloading those drivers install them from device manager than install gpu driver via their installer good luck
and one thing if above methods doesnot work out your card is then definitely buggy

thanks!

so you're saying its not my PC right? (PSU/pcie etc)

XFX website is trashy, the only thing it does is link you to AMD's site...they don't have their own standalone site for drievrs, which is what I read that some other sites like saphire and gigabyte/msi have their OWN drivers for their OWN versions of cards...XFX doesn't...sure to never buy an XFX again....

but the drivers...i used the one that came with the CD...it worked then crashed after a second reboot (like it rebooted fine...then next day when i went to turn it on black screen....then the next time around i tried to work with it...it rebooted fine and froze afterwards)

i had tried the most up to date NON beta one and the beta one for sure, and both did not work...

you said to use saphires...would it even function with my XFX?

thats what I hate...XFX does not have their own custom drivers...so I'm stuck with AMD...

for saphire, where is the 13.12 one? i see 3 things i can download, do i download all 3? theres two 13.12....which date is it? im sorry im a bit stupid for these, can you give me the exact one? like

Catalys Software Suite -> Date xxxx, xx, xxxx -> Version xxxxx this way in case there are identical dates I know which version, and vice versa, and from which of the 3 to download...

cuz for example in the Catalyst Software Suite, i see Oct 2013 13.2 WHQL for R7 260x, and I see two 13.12's on Jan and Dec....both are 13.12...then theres a 13.12c in february....then a random 14.3...in chinese...

i've downloaded the hydravision package meanwhile since its only one of them....

what do you mean...install them from device manager...then install gpu driver via their installer? mine is XFX so...it auto installs XFX one on CD....theres the graphic card driver Catalyst Suite and Hydravision...could you clarfiy?

hello i am not sure my system going to work so here goes the my brief ideas
1. first go to the sapphire website of r7 260x than download this Feb 13, 2014 Catalyst V13.12c launched in 2/12/2014 the first one with 242.9 mb
2. after downloading u will just get a catalyst application that it w ill extract the driver files to c drive to amd folder or if its not a ctalyst application or the driver file itself with{ bin, packages, config etc } than copy that file to a folder renaming amd
3. than just go to my computer click on manage click on device manager than u will find something like display adapter than double click it and u can see your gpu than click on it after that u can see a box showing the status of that device if there are some thing wrong with your gpu u can see that in that box
4 after that click on driver than click on update driver than u can see two options click on browse my computer for driver than select the folder containing the driver software dont select the files within that folder like bin or config just select the folder containing those folders after that click ok and installation will start automatcally if blue screen occurs at that time go into safe mode than try to install if that doesnot help try the 13.12 not c
5. if the installation successfully complete shut down ur pc and restart ur pc and than go to the amd folder with drivers and nornally setup from that place
6 and last if these trick not work try windows 8 64bi / windows 7 ultimate 64 bit i personally suggest win 8 cause it can detect ur gpu correctly and install necessary driver
good luck and reply the results

okay..

ive downloaded most of those drivers...so you want me to use the Device Manager to install the driver (after it's downloaded)...by using the browse so i only get the "required"? and by using the V13.12c version? and 13.12 after? f it doesnt work?

alright.

ill give it a shot.

but i think i'll wait till june 1st.

i bought the r9 270...any idea if it has the same driver issue as the r7 260x? got 14 days for refund so gonna see if theres a gtx 660 sale if not ill try it or ill get a gtx 750 ti

ive no idea tbh...im considering to keep the cheap r9 270 i bought...and buy a 750ti until a more stable graphcis driver for the r9 series comes out...and skip the gtx 660 since it never seems to drop in price (and it costs $200 while the r9 270 and i just saw a r9 270 oc for like 150$)
