R7 360 PSU requirement and tempreture

Hi friends.

I have Core i5 2400, 8 gb ram and Acer 61 mobo, some Korean brand i think GMC PSU of 460 watt. I just bought Asus R7 360 OC and minimum requirement says 500W psu with 12V current rating of 24A.
1. So my first question is do I really need to change the PSU?

(Just to tell you I have played GTA V for a week (almost 10-14 hours) but I haven't faced any software crash/hang or hardware failure yet. No loud noise from PSU at all.)

Secondly, while playing GTA V for about 20 mins the temp raises to 78C max (and flickers between 70s). The fan speed was set to auto, so even on 70C+ temperature the fan speed doesn't go above 45%(which doesn't sound good to me).......and when I removed the side panel of the chasis it reduced ~5C.

So my questions are;
2. Is 78C a high and dangerous temperature and do I need to worry (note the while playing the GPU usage is 100%)....
3. Is it because of my low brand or low watt PSU?
4. How about I use MSI afterburner to set the fan control to a bit high? (like i tried once for 60C I turned the fan speed to 50% and for 70C I put it to 60%, and then I never went over 70C). Please also advise the optimal fan speed for each range of temperature?

Please advise.....

Don't know anything about GMC psu. The power requirement of R7 370 is fairly low, so if your psu can supply what it claims, you are ok. The 500W requirement is put by companies to avoid being sued, since people use cheap psus that can't provide rated power. A cheap 500W psu might be able to provide only 350W for example.

78C is not very high for the GPU. You can use MSI afterburner to set fan to high, but there will be more noise. IF you are ok with it, do that.

Thanks Rohit.... I have adjusted the fan and it's not making much noise.... One more thing I want to know is that what are the symptoms of low power supply? For example, will it my very loud noise? Or the temperature of CPU and/or GPU will raise very high? Or windows/games will crash??? What exactly?

blue screen, system freeze, or instant shut down - thats all regarding psu .

set yourself a custom fan profile in msi afterburner mate- I hate these low speed fan settings on the newer cards - it drive me nuts to be honest - like you Id rather have a little bit of fan noise & my gpu under 70c.

& honestly the best way to keep gpu temps in check is to make sure vsync is enabled in game.

Oh V-sync!! Never thought of it bro..... Thanks for the advice.
I wonder why Asus has kept fan speed too low...... Like come on the fan must reach at least 50% if the temp is going above 70C.....

I have used this GPU with an old PSU for about one week (2 hours per day almost) but didn't face any of these problems you mentioned above... So does that mean I am safe to use this old cheap PSU for R7 360 as long as it doesn't mess up???? I hope it doesn't destroys the capacitors of my mobo or gpu slowly and gradually....

I would say get a decent psu, like Seasonic S12II 430 W. It will last long and will actually provide power that your system asks for. Do not guess whether your current garbage psu is going to last or whether it is going to provide power or not. If it fails, it might take your system with it. If a good psu fails, it will just die itself without damaging anything else, since it will have protections built in.

Oh so do you mean it can fail any time even without giving blue screen errors or crashing system few times before fail???? If there is risk for that I will not wait a sec... However, if you guys are sure that before failing it normally gives warning like blue screen etc. then I can wait and test this PSU a bit more....

Looking at those PSU specs

If its the p-4500 or p-5000 then the spec sheet is actually fairly decent.

They are at least real 500w models not some mislabeled 3-400w models.

Quality - who knows ??
Not enough info on them , the Koreans make some great quality electrical stuff , they also make some absolutely dire quality.
