R800 MicroWeave setting unavailable for selection. What am..

This isn't a problem, as such, but I /am/ curious. When I select Premium
Glossy and then Photo RPM the 'greyscale' check box becomes 'MicroWeave';
however, it's unavailable for selection (IOW it's greyed out). This appears
to be the only combination that makes it appear, albeit not available for
selection.

I have fiddled around with settings until I'm blue in the face, but I cannot
find the combination of settings that will miraculously 'ungrey' it.

I have some photos I need to print for archiving, and I'd like to use it. I
even downloaded - and installed, obviously! - the latest driver, but that
didn't help the situation!

What am I missing here?!

Thanks

This could be the answer:

"Japanese versions offer Microweave choice, which the US does not."

No it isn't. I am neither in Japan or the US - I am in the UK.

Anyone else?

Hi
Can't comment on your question as I am new user but have a question if
you don't mind. I noticed you are doing archival printing. Any
thoughts/suggestions on best papers to use with the R800? Best
quality. Best quality/price.
Thanks in advance
Art

I suggest you look at www.wilhelm-research.com for archival information.
Matte papers will last longer than glossy papers.

[Broken record mode=ON]

Or, better still, http://www.livick.com/method/inkjet/pg1.htm

[Broken record mode=OFF]

I think the broader point might be that English language drivers
(which I presume you are using in the UK) might be different than the
Japanese drivers. The quote I offered was from someone who had tried
the Japanese driver and the US one.

That's much more interesting than Wilhelm. I actually learnt something
on this site ;-)

Is that stuff any good? I've never bothered using coatings as I
presumed I'd be clumsy and ruin the print by spraying too close, or
whatever.

It's excellent.

You don't spray it, you brush or roll it on. I've been using a sponge
brush, as recommended on Stephen Livick's site (although a recent piece
on the site describes a roll method of application). There are gloss,
semi-gloss and matt versions. I've been using the latter.

The UK distributor is Alumaframe Systems. Its Web site is at
http://www.alumaframe.com. If you call the company on 01787 474300,
they'll send you a free sample.
