Should my new (refurbished) R9 270 work in my motherboard's PCI express 3.0 slot? I tried it there first and my computer wouldn't recognize anything in that slot. My previous graphics card worked fine there. (HD7750)

this is the card (as advertised on NewEgg) SAPPHIRE 11220-00-CPO Radeon R9 270 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Dual-X with Boost and OC

Corsair CX500 power supply
i5- 3570k cpu
Asrock z75 Pro3 mobo
8gb ram

🙁
I have the card working in the "normal" PCIe slot. I just want to know if it not being recognized in the 3.0 one means there is a problem that means I should return or replace the card.

The motherboard has only one slot designed to run a graphics card.
This slot is cabable of PCI-E 3.0 X16, but it wouldn't really matter if it was running at PCI-E 2.0 X16.
What's more important is that the second X16 slot runs at only PCI-E 2.0 X4 speed through the motherboard chipset, rather than using any of the PCI-E lanes from the CPU which are all used by the first X16 slot.
I doubt the problem is your card. Update your motherboard bios.

After much searching, it appears I already HAVE the latest bios already installed. So, since I can't use this card in the PCIe slot, should I simply go back to my old HD7750? ...or possibly run both cards at the same time (if that is a possibility) keeping the r9 in the PCIe 2.0(x4) slot?

Strangely enough, I am using the card in the x4 slot while typing this. It is working ok, actually, just at a fraction of it's potential. I'm unsure what would be better though. The HD7750 at x16, or the r9 at x4....

I'd love to try this solution, but the latest bios I can find for this board are from 2013... any ideas for finding newer ones than at Asrock's site? or *maybe* I'm looking at the wrong place???

I'm about ready to give up on this. Asrock says I should flash the GPU bios and Sapphire tech wants me to try it in another pc with PCIe 3.0 becuase they don't support flashing the card's bios, but I don't have anyone around who has a newer pc for me to try it out in.
The bios version I'm using for the motherboard is version p2.00 according to the UEFI.
I'm hoping this card will work for my friend who just ordered a new computer. Then I could at least see it not go to waste. But it will still be a few weeks until it arrives and we can try it out. 🙁

Why do I always end up with the weird problems that don't make sense???
