I know the R9 270 and R9 270x are basically the same GPU with the latter having a higher clock out of the box, however on the AMD website they show that the R9 270 is only compatible with another R9 270 so can I crossfire them or not?

I was actually thinking of clocking both cards at 1100 MHz which is the maximum OC My R9 270 can manage. The r9 270x will also have to be clocked up a bit since its base clock is around 1030 MHz but that won't be much of an issue since it should OC to 1200 MHz with ease. I hope this way they will be able to run at the same speed.

As another option, you might want to consider selling your current card on eBay and picking up a single-more powerful card because you'd get better performance out of it. Crossfire begins to get quite choppy at < 60fps and 270 sli isn't going to be a great performer so you're likely to run into frame rate pacing issues.

I actually thought about that although two 270x should be on bar with a R9 290. The R9 290 would cost me the same as getting a new R9 270x assuming I can sell my R9 270 at the price I want to, which is not necessarily a possibility. Also The only R9 290 I could find available had poor reviews. So at the moment CFing with another R9 270/R9 270x seems like my best option. And I have seen video reviews on youtube where 2 R9 270 cards run fine together.

Yes, it gets choppy if the frame rate is lower than 60fps. I have 2x 280x. There are also a couple of games that have severe issues with Crossfire and you have to disable it entirely like Titanfall. I'm genuinely considering selling both my cards and buying a 390x when they come out.

It can also act up in some games if you enable vsync, I'm not sure why.
