Hi
I ungraded to Crimson last night (fingers crossed) and i wonder if anybody could help me with a bit of info please.

on any game that can pull over 60fps i normaly have Vsync on, but now i have this frame limiter on Crimson that i can set to 60 to match my Acer 60Hz monitor (1920x1080p) but i am unclear what the correct order is here?.
do i turn off Vsync and let the limiter do its thing or do i need Vsync working as well for when things drop below 60fps, or just stick to Vsync and forget the limiter.

not all my games i can manage 60fps so whats the best performance balance here for over and under 60fps games when it comes to Vsync/limiter?.

at the moment my games seem a bit stuttery using the new crimson and my fps seem to have gone down a lot (using the new updated version that fixed the fan issue) so looking for performance gains here.

thank you in advance and happy christmas to all.

Mark.

Well vsync and fps limiter are used for different reasons. Vsync is used to stop screen tearing, it does create input lag at times. fps limiter would be for when you are playing a game and want to have a consistent fps, if you are playing a game and are getting say 100 fps and in certain areas the fps drops to 50, it can cause the game to jitter or so. Using a fps limiter won't prevent screen tearing like vsync though, even if you set the limit to your monitors refresh rate.

I personally dont have an amd graphics card but from what I've read about the new drivers there seem to be a lot of issues, especially with vsync. I'd try a game with vsync on then switch and limit your fps to 60 or so and see which you prefer.

Thank you petek for the quick reply.
yes i am reading lots of very unhappy and happy people since the crimson switch over its a bit of luck of the draw type of thing it seems lol.
i am swaying towards a new GPU in the January sales and getting away from AMD but for now i need my fps back on Crimson :pfff:
i will experiment this afternoon with your advice and see what i can find out thank you.

Mark :)

EDIT...............

Just done some benchmark testing on Dirt rally thought i would share these with every body in case it helps some body.

settings all on ultra maxed out 1080p (R9 270 duel x 4 gig GPU OC 1150 Memory 1490)

Vsync OFF Total frames 8480 Average frames 41.29 Min frames 32.74 Max frames 61.03
Vsync ON Total frames 8452 Average frames 41.15 Min frames 31.87 Max frames 56.06
Frame limiter ON 60fps (no Vsync) Total frames 8398 Average frames 40.89 Min frames 31.67 Max frames 55.98
Frame limiter on and Vsync ON Total frames 8498 Average frames 41.38 Min frames 32.23 Max frames 58.68

so looking at that its best to run with no limiter and no Vsync, on all four tests graphics were smooth and beautfull not a problem but then again this is a AMD sponsored game.

hope that helps

Mark.
