r9 270x freezes pc at around 50 degrees c

r9 270x freezing pc at around low 50 degrees celsius.
It is a msi r9 270x oc edition, which I have had since may of last year. I have used prime 95 on cpu for stress test for 10 mins 100 load on 8 cores and everything was fine. I used Kombuster benchmark it stressed the gpu to around 98% all the way until it inclines to low 50's it causes the pc to freeze but the pc keeps running and so does the peripherals. I get around 20's to 30's when gaming on my fx 8320 and my psu is good quality with enough power. I also have 6 fans not including the cpu. I have tested the ram and it comes out with 0 errors, i also reseated the cpu, gpu, and ram to make sure and re installed the newest drivers making sure to uninstall old ones.

GPU could be defective. It's also possible you're getting a bad reading, maybe the temps are really higher than this. Did you try with different software to monitor the temps? But if it's a bad sensor inside the card, you'll always get a bad reading anyway.

Is the Bios up to date ?

Try running the fans at 100% and see what happens .

i have used msi kombuster to check the temps while the stress test is going and i also used hwmonitor. They both basically just state how at about 51-53 the pc just freezes completely. Could it be that I put a fan filter on and intake recently that blows air into one of the gpu fans? The bios is not up to date however, the bios download description for the ones after i bought and installed the mobo only show to have am3 improvements which im not sure will help. I also did run the fans at 100% through msi afterburner and it functioned fine, nothing wrong with fans except it being louder.

Try and downloading the latest bios update , it might fix the issue however unlikely.

Also try removing the fan filter as it might be doing more harm than sane , try running the fans at 100%.

I edited my last post to answer your question about turning the fans to 100% but anyways it worked perfectly fine when i did it and the only difference was noise and temp drop. The weirdest thing about this is that the gpu worked perfectly fine up until this weekend when all I did was replace my monitor with a new one and added a fan filter for and intake at the bottom of the case

Are you talking about using my gpu fans that are on the card as exhaust instead of intake? If so how would I do that?

I am also thinking that the gpu has a messed up sensor that is telling itself that it is running too hot even though low 50 degrees is pretty low in terms of gpus but the only thing that i have done to it is re install new drivers and re-seat and clean the fans.

Have u re-applied thermal paste in the process since you've opened the card ?

If not then make sure nothing is hanging around and everything is tight and sturdy as well as in place.

My card is an R9 290 and reaches around 76 on 100% usage on BF4 , not too chabby putting into account that ambient temp is around 29-30 degrees Celsius.

Again , try the fix mentioned above.

I have not opened the card yet, if you think it would be a good idea to i guess i could do it to check to see if the chip is fine. I checked that everything is tight and sturdy.

In my 200r i have one exhaust upper right back, 2 exhausts up top ( hyper 212 and ram is blocking them ), 2 front case intake one for hdd and one blowing semi across gpu and one intake on the bottom right beside psu under one of the gpus fans/ metal exhaust shroud for the gpu. I cant really get air blowing directly on top of the pcb sadly 🙁 the 200r that i have is windowed and i cant mount a fan on the side

I think your best bet is to put the GPU in the upper PCIe slot and make the fans blow cool air in front of it

Honestly I just want to know why my card shuts down at 50 degrees after having used it for like 5 months without any problems. Its definitely gone past 50 degrees in the past and still hasn't shut down. Would re applying thermal compound make the chip last any longer than 50 degrees say like 60 or 70? Would re applying thermal paste void any warranty as well?

I think when you've cleaned your card you never re-applied thermal compound ?
