R9 270X incompability???

I bought a sapphire vapor-x r9 270x 2gb ddr5 to upgrade from my GTX 470 which malfunctioned after 4 years of use. I have a Gateway model :FX 4170-UB003A I plugged the card into the PCI Express slot, but it does not detect the card. I installed the drivers with no luck, in device manager it appears as a VGA standard display Is there any problem of compatibility between my motherboard and the video card? If so , I would have to return it

There is no compatibility problem. Sadly you will need someone with more sleep than me to fix this as I'm too tired to think of much. Only thing I can suggest is making sure power is all plugged in right.

If that's what your going to post, then why post at all.

This is a prebuilt desktop, correct? Upgraded parts are not guaranteed to work since manufacturers tend to use modified parts which prevent any further upgrades. It may be compatible according to their specs, but considering the fact it is a prebuilt desktop with modified hardware ect. It is not compatible. If using your old card now works and everything else is left the same and it works, then it is a problem with Gateways modified hardware. I have attended many of these issues when users recommend cards for prebuilt desktops and they give them the ok that it will work, but when it comes to the time it doesn't. This is not the case for all pre-built desktops, it is only a matter of the card and manufacturer of the desktop itself.

Did you plug in the power connectors ?. Enter safe mode and use DDU(display dirver uninstaller) to remove the current video drivers , restart and enter Safe mode and try installing the drivers provided by the manufacturer of the video card . Reseat the card . Try another PCI-E slot . Last try it on another computer . And the very last :RMA .

The card has a switch next to The power plugs I turned it on. Still it does not recognize the card , in device manager it appears as a default vga card adapter. This Is driving my crazy I have not idea what might it be

Well , i had a nvidia GeForce GTX 470 , but the machine actually came with a 9800GT. When I upgraded it gave me no problems , I did the DDU thing but not in safe mode since it wouldn't run for me in safe mode, it did not remove one nvidia file it kept asking me to switch to premium. After that I installed the drivers again with success , both the audio and catalyst install manager gave me no trouble. But still the machine does not recognize the video card , just a vga adapter. I could exchange it for a GTX 750 TI but I don't know if it will work, the chipset is Intel g33 I don't know if it is too old for any card available in the market

Some cards work with pre-builts, and since you have replaced it with a newer card again, it may not be compatible. With prebuilts, some cards work, some don't. It is impossible to predict if it will work or not. If you plug in your old card and it works right away, it is a problem with compatibility, and there is nothing you can do but return the card.

I read that AMD cards have problems with PCI Express v1.1 slots which my motherboard has since it is very old. The chipset is an Intel G33, some say that an update on the drivers of the motherboard could solve the problem since PCI-E slots have forward an backward compatibility. Can anyone point me to where i could find Motherboard Drivers???. Could this solve the problem??? What do you guys think? I might have to return it for an Nvidia GTX 750 TI, which is really sad 🙁

PCI-E is backwards compatible, and shouldn't be much of an issue. Though attempting to update drivers may be your last option to try.

With any drivers for a motherboard you always get them from the manufacturers site, and usually always under the specific model.
