Hi,

I'm considering an upgrade from my GTX 560 to either the R9 280 (no "x") or the GTX 760. Would my Corsair CX500 clear either of these cards' consumption? And how about the R9 270x (quite a lot cheaper on Amazon)...

Other Specs:
i5 2300 w/stock fan
P8B75 V
2*4GB 1333 Kingston
Lancool K58 (non "W") w/ 2 stock fans (no fans at the top)
1TB 7200RPM Seagate

NO OC whatsoever

I'll only decide which GPU to get now and leave the make/model for later. There seems to be a lot of price discrepancies within the AMD cards.

And while I'm at it, should I also upgrade the fans? How much heat do those two cards produce?

Thanks in advance

Sam

Yes, it meets the requirements of the cards, albeit quite close with the 280/760 if it's the early CX 500.

If that's the case I'd probably go with the R9 270X, and you seem happier with the price. Otherwise the 280/760 are better whichever you can get a good deal on. They all do really well at 1080p.

The fans should be okay, try it and see first. Use a program like HWmonitor to see what your temps are & monitor it.

Get the 270x.

If you are concerned about the power supply, there is an XFX TS 550 for $26 after $25 rebate and $10 coupon. I have a few XFX TS 550's but I use them to power 3 260x's since I play everything on low graphics mode but I like to listen to music while I game so I thought the trueaudio would help.

How much better are the 280/760 anyway? On amazon the cheapest 270x is about 120£ and the 280/760 about 170-180£.

Also how much of a bottleneck would my i5 2300 be? I play Watch Dogs, Shogun 2, Rome 2 and BF4 and plan to run GTA V when it comes out.

The 270X isn't far behind the 760, certainly not £50's worth. While the 280 performs between the 760 & 770.

There shouldn't be a bottleneck, or at least not a noticeable one with an i5 quad core at this time.

The £120 270X is this one:

I heard that the Dual-X series have fan problems? The other models cost about £150... In that case I'd rather go with a 760...

I think the fan is a little noisy from what I've seen people review, but for the price / performance, what do people expect these days. The Vapor-X cooler should be better, it's a more premium cooler, i had one with a 5850 and it was great.

It is kind of noisy but the fan would definitely cool the card well. If you don't mind a bit of noise go ahead and get it. The GTX 760 or R9 280 is your best bet though.
