R9 280 vs GTX 670?

No. It might net you an extra couple fps, but if you are wanting to upgrade from a 670 then I'd suggest 290. Otherwise, stick with what you got. A 280 isn't worth the upgrade for you.

EDIT. The 670 is pretty comparable to a 760. So if you look at benchmarks you'll see the 280 is like 2fps faster than a 760. Point is, don't upgrade to 280.

280 beats the 670 and is a lot cheaper too
try this link to compare GPU cards, just adjust the card model numbers in the address bar to compare results quicker rather than actually searching for the specific cards to pair up

That link shows the 670 faster at texture fill and nearly identical at pixel rate. How can it beat it? And the 280 uses a lot more power getting there.

The question is: If you already own the 670 is it worth upgrading to a 280? That answer is no. Earlier I suggested making an upgrade to a 290. That would be a big jump in performance and a lot more VRAM.

Also, I'd like to suggest when making comparisons, don't use gpuboss. It only lists specs and isn't really useful in terms of real world performance. To really compare GPUs you have to look at reviews and benchmarks that compare different GPUs in different scenarios such as Battlefield 4, Far Cry 3, and synthetics.

+1^ regarding GPUBOSS. I use it myself for quick comparisons to show the difference between vastly different cards. But all it is is a 'on paper' comparison. Not a good tool for comparing similar cards.

yeah i also use userbenchmark, shows more clearly the actual performance differences, closest you would get to a head to head performance comparison in a test rig

You should stick with your 670, try overclock to squeeze out more performance, as you won't get much for the amount you spend upgrading.
If upgrading, better to a r9 290 or just wait as long as you can before you really need an upgrade

Userbenchmark.com is an interesting site. But it appears to only compare components from users who have run their benchmarks. Hard to say what other variables were involved. But I'll definitely bookmark it.
