G'day,
I'm about to buy either the R9 280 or the R9 285. Not even thinking about the Nvidia, because they're expensive as hell. I've been looking on some threads about my question, and apparently 285 wins. I'm about to get 1920x1080 monitor, and thinking about playing Skyrim with lotsa mods and GTA V. My main question is about the 1 gig memory on the 280. Is the 1 gig gonna help with those games at all? Probably not gonna go higher than 1080, but some future games may require more than 2 gig of memory. Also, try to make me buy the 285, posting specs and stuff, thx.
Thanks for answers!

Oh ok, its really depends on if you will need that extra 1gb of VRAM on the 280. Skyrim with extremely heavy modding (like 50+ graphic mods) and using Nvidia's DSR (high res like 4k scaled down to 1080P) put me almost at 4gb of VRAM usage. If your only gaming @1080P without any kind of scaling then the 285 is probably fine but I'd still rather go with the 280 then overclock it to match or if possible beat the 285 and have the extra 1gb.

It's about 50 bucks more expensive here, you sure it's worth it? Got 620w Seasonic supply.

Okay, I think I'll go with 280. It's also on sale now, which is nice. I don't use that many graphical mods, but I never know when I'm gonna get some. Overclocking shouldn't be much of a problem, got big case with nice airflow too. Thanks.

The only benefit of the 285 is lower power consumption, otherwise both should perform basically the same in games. The 280 is a better choice right now, I picked mine up new for $150 after rebate.
