I plan on playing at 5760x1080 resolution and want the best graphics solution even if I have to destroy entire continents.
I think we can say that the R9 80x solution would create the most frames but im also worried about future titles. Would the larger Memory bus on the 290x make the computer sufficient for the next 4 years. Even crossfiring later on? Would the R9 280x crossfire be sufficient for most games in the next 4 years. Would the Z87 chipset be able to support the lanes for 2 GPU's, sound card and a raid card?

As with a current situation: I want to play skyrim with merciless quantities of Mods and achieve at least 45 frames.

Well, damn...it's easy to see it this way:
Get the 290X because it's a newer architecture and not just a rebrand with a few tweaks (280X = HD7970GHz).
Get the 290X because it is a more powerful than the 280X and you avoid Crossfire issues that could be further taken care of by the time you decide you need even more performance and get a second 290X.
If you want a smart configuration and performance in the same computer go with 290X now and add another one later if you really need that much performance. Mind you the 290X is @ GTX Titan level in some areas and is usually better than the GTX 780. That is a lot of graphics power.
I am considering the 290X for a 3x1 Eyefinity setup.
Moreover - the more mods in Skyrime, the more VRAM and processing power needed, right?
There you go: why go with 3GB 280Xs when you can get a 4GB 290X while still being able to CFX later? (mind you the prices are only gonna go down so you're most likely gonna be able to get a 2nd 290X for less cash).

Thank you for your elaborate answer, Im leaning towards the R9 290x at this point. Unless someone else wishes to contribute then i may pick this as Solution.
