R9 280x DVI connectors

Hello everyone, i have a R9 280x XFX and i have two DVI ports, one is black with a VGA Adapter and the oher one is the red one below it, i want to use two monitors but when i use the Red DVI connector it doesnt work, they both look the exact same connector except for the colors, the black one has "VGA" stamped in the metal next to the port, the adapters seems to fit in both DVI connections but only one will give me signal

what do you mean when you say the DVI port has a VGA adapter? Is it DVI or VGA? These are different physical interfaces

Are you trying to plug a VGA monitor into the plug that is not labeled VGA? If so that is your problem, only the plug labeled VGA supports analog VGA signals the other is digital only. So basically if you want to plug a VGA monitor into the plug not labeled VGA you will need an active adapter that coverts analog to digital.

Its an old monitor, im using a VGA adapter and im planning in buying another old monitor with VGA and want to make them both work

im already using that DV-I with an adapter to VGA to use it, i want to use the other DVI to plug another VGA monitor
