hi i am in the market for a card and think that the VTX3D r9 280 3gb x new for £200 is too good to miss out on or should i get the extra money for the gtx 770 2gb sc evga for £270 i will be playing skyrim /eso/titanfall/boarderlands 2 and payday2

R9 280 or R9 280x?, they're different cards, being the replacements of the 7950 and 7970 Ghz Edition respectively.

That said, the R9 280 performs a tad lower while the R9 280x performs on par with the GTX 770. If the deal is for the 'x' version, then is a great deal, if it's not, then you have to decide if the performance boost is worth those £70.

A while ago i also had to make the same choice, between Inno3D GTX 770 Herculez 3000 or R9 280x, and i went for the 770 because it suited me better.
both cards are very strong, with GTX 770 a little faster, especially EVEGA one. I guess you'll get some free games too with GTX 770. but the point is YOU! which games you play? for example games like UBISOFT are better for Nvidia and BF4 are good for AMD.
You can also consider these things: Go for AMD if you like : Mantle, 1 GB more VRAM (could be useful in resolutions higher than 1080p whilst gaming), and Bus Width, and BF4.
go for GTX 770 if you like : G force experience, Cuda, PhysX, G sync, and those free games.
