R9 280x in a gtx 1080 reference cooler

So I saw this gpu on eBay it is an r9 280x in a gtx 1080's shroud. Can this really work? I messaged the seller and he said it did.

I ended up buying it just to see so I'll say the results when I get them

That was a big gamble, so Im just here to see the results.
I honesty dont see it working all that well, but hopefully Im wrong.

My concern with it would be if the Nvidia heatsink base plate would actually line up with the voltage regulation modules. If those aren't properly cooled, the card will melt down within minutes of starting up any game. This is a very risky situation.
