Hello.
I just bought Gigabyte R9 280x GV-R928XOC-3GD. Idle tempertaure is approximately
40 C, but with load it rises till 90 C with BlueScreenofDeath.
What could cause this overheating problem ?

GPU Gigabyte R9 280x GV-R928XOC-3GD
PSU Corsair VS 650W ATX 80 PLUS
CPU AMD FX-8350
RAM 8 gb dd3
MB ASRock 970 Pro3
CASE old ATX

Thankyou with response. With opened case maximum temperature is not going over 76 C. I will start looking for new well ventiled case.

Increase you fan speed and open your case. It seems to me that your case might not have enough air ventilation. The 280x is awfully loud, but if you want your card to run without gettin BSOD/overheating, i'd recommend you to increase fan speed, and clean your case, and open it for better ventilation, afterwards get a new good case ASAP.

I second this. From a lot of reviews I've read it seems that these new cards have problems with cooling with the default fan settings. Setting it higher should help a bit.

No kidding. I'm loving my R9 280X from a performance/value standpoint but the noise and poor heat exhaust (it's basically just sat there cooking the inside of my PC) is driving me crazy 🙁

Can you add any more fans to your case and do some more cable management?
Adjust the fan curve in MSI Afterburner and keep testing out different settings to find the sweet spot your are after.
It's a shame they run so loud and hot, do the best you can to get some good airflow into your case.
