R9 280X max temp?

Hey guys. I just bought a Sapphire dual-x R9 280X, mostly for mining, and I'm getting what I consider are high temps. First off, my GPU isn't with me in my computer, it's in a friend's. I bought this card thinking all would be well with a 600W PSU and.. I looked at the specs again, requires at least 750W. Although somebody apparently had two running on 850.. Clarify on that as well?

Anyway, my friend's case only has about 5 small fans, only one being 120mm (we added 3 just for putting this card in), whereas my case has 7 120mm fans. This card, while mining dogecoin with cgminer, got up to 78C before I cut it off the other night. I was told by said friend tonight that this card could withstand up to 95C. But of course, I'm trying to get a 1000W PSU asap (1000W for future SLI) so I can bring it home in my really chilled case and also so I can play some games when I want. We still plan on adding two new fans in his case, but couldn't yet because he's really busy with two jobs.

I have the exact same card running on a 600W PSU. Gaming I stay low to mid 60s I believe, I haven't monitored my temps in a while. This is in a lexa S case which has good airflow, but nothing amazing. A side and front 120mm i think and then 2 top 140mm. Bringing the card up to 95C will cause it to throttle, and maybe shut down. Hitting the thermal barrier once or twice isn't bad, but consistently doing it will shorten the life of the card.

78C is fine for normal operations also.

So you would say it's totally safe to run this thing on 600W? What CPU do you have? Mine is a Phenom II X6 1045T, which uses 95W. I would love to put this think in my computer if it's safe. We took the side of his case off and it went all the way down to 67C! Not sure how that made such a huge difference, but it's there! Thanks for answering!

I have an i5 750, which also runs 95W. The side fan on my case is blowing right into the intack of my card so I that's why my card is able to stay cool in not such an amazing case.
