Hi guys.... Please help me if you can

I have an XFX R9 280x Black edition GPU. It's factory overclocked to 1080mhz and in games and while running the Heaven benchmark 4.0 it runs at 1080mhz constantly. Temps have always been good and it has never thermal throttled.

The problem is when I run 3dMark my GPU stays at a constant 850mhz! This is obviously affecting my results and really annoying me.

Anybody know why this is happening?

Thanks in advance

It's all sorted now... I found a similar issue to mine on the 3dmark forums... within the 3dmark main folder are some WMV files and these are being detected by some gpu drivers which tells the gpu it's running a video instead of doing a benchmark and therefore the card runs at a lower mhz to save power as video doesn't need a gpu to run at boost speed... the temporary solution until 3dmark finds a fix is to delete these WMV files and then run the benchmarks... everything is fine now, card runs at 1080 mhz...

Hi

I have tried using various programmes including HWinfo monitor, MSI afterburner with rivatuner including having the gpu temps and speed on screen while 3dmark is running, AMD overdrive etc and all show the gpu speed is 850mhz while running 3dmark but they all show my gpu running at 1080mhz while gaming or running other benchmarks such as Heaven Benchmark.

My score has gone down by over 700 so it seems that my card used to run at full speed but now it's not. The temps are not an issue, in fact they remain very low while 3dmark is running, probably due to running at over 200mhz lower than the factory overclocked and usual speed of 1080mhz!

I have just updated to the latest AMD drivers (Crimson) so this may have something to do with it.

Just seems strange that the card is fine in all my games and stays at 1080mhz constantly.

Yeah that is strange. You could try reverting back and trying again and seeing if it goes away. If it becomes a point of concern, you can always request support at xfxsupport.com and warranty servicing if desired.

I have to say this is my first xfx card and I am very pleased with it so I'm glad this was a software issue and not my 280x
