R9 280x runs Minecraft at 30fps on MAX SETTINGS

Hi,
I've custom built my pc and my GPU (R9 280X) only runs MC at 30 - 40fps at 1080p
Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8350
RAM: 16gb
Mobo: Asrock Extreme3
GPU: MSI R9 280x Twin Frozr

Minecraft is not even a real PC game, you should be getting atleast 500 FPS ON THAT KIND OF GAME LOL.

That's quite odd.
The game is not using DirectX to render. So you can't blame the graphics card for that.

It uses the CPU and RAM to render..

Have you installed The 64-bit version? Sometimes you have to install it manually.

And have you allocated extra RAM to Minecraft?

Use optifine:http://auth.curse.com/NetworkService.asmx/shareSession?from=http://www.minecraftforum.net%2Fforums%2Fmapping-and-modding%2Fminecraft-mods%2F1272953-optifine-hd-a4-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and it uses direct X for rendering at boosts fps up to 200% fps se it on the link if it didn't work i dont think that in minecraft's problem and i suggest reinstalling minecraft and again give more ram to minecraft if you dont just google it and how to reinstall minecraft in setting there is a part called "Force Update" click that so that should do it and what about other games what fps do you get on games like battle field 4 and to monitor fps on those games i go with fraps:www.fraps.com go for it
