R9 280x THERMALTAKE TR2 550W

Hey guys, i have a thermaltake tr2-550W psu (its pretty old) and im looking to upgrade to a r9 280x, should I look for a psu upgrade first? (im thinking 650W) I'd like to avoid it if possible for now. Also, im not interested in overclocking it further than the oc it comes with the gigabyte version.

The 280x needs at least 500w and a solid psu. The TR2 is one of the worst psu's out there and useful only as a doorstop IMO.

If you are buying the 280x get a good 600-650w psu from Corsair (TX), XFX, EVGA or Seasonic. Don't risk your new gpu (and m/b, cpu) on a cheap psu.

This looks really cheap but I do not know is it really any good. Rosewil cappstone and lightning are best what you can find. But this I do not know.

Hi - A good quality, modern design 550w PSU is enough for a sys with an R9 280x.
However, the TR2 550 is/was not a good qualityunit. More importantly, it is an older design and
does not have sufficient +12v amps for a sys with a 280x. Additionally, it has 2 6pin pcie connectors,
so you would need a 6pin - 8pin adapter for one of the ports. Some GPU's include one in the box.

But, being short on +12v amps you really do need to upgrade.
