I decided to take the L with my Sapphire 7870 recently purchased with the rest of my system a month ago.I have taken a liking in the new R9-280x Toxic by Sapphire. My question is can i run it out the box without any problems with my systems PSU to be exact. I have a Corsair HX 650w 80 Plus Gold certified. Looking at Sapphires requirements it says a 750w minimu for one card and 1000w for crossfire. Now ive done some googling and landed on the same topic and heard that those requirements are doubled for people using cheap not certified PSUs. I aslo hear from reviews that this care is the highest factory OC'd ever so could that be why they have it at 750w ?

My MOBO is the ASUS P8z77-VLK by the way and my processor is Intel i5-3570k.

For a system using a single Radeon R9 280X graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 600 Watt or greater system power supply. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps or greater and have at least one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) may require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

The Corsair HX650 (SKU # 75-001217 / CP-9020030) power supply unit, with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 54 Amps and with two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is more than sufficient to power your system configuration with a single Radeon R9 280X graphics card.
