Dear people,

I've ran into a problem.
I've made a whole document about it. I did this because I couldn't do some things and otherwise this forum would get an extreme mess. It describes all steps I took before I posted this on this forum.

NOTE: I’ve made this file really big so you can understand what I went through and I hope that you can help me!

So, thank you in advance for reading all of this!
I hope that you maybe know a solution or know something that helps me.
All help is appreciated!

TLDR:

Last week I ordered 2x the Sapphire Active mini DP to SL-DVI Adapter.
My graphics card is the Sapphire R9 280x Toxic(http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/350989/sapphire-r9-280x-3gb-gddr5-toxic/specificaties/).
This card has the following connections:
1 x Dual-Link DVI-I
1 x Single-Link DVI-D
1 x HDMI
2 x Mini-DisplayPort

I've 3 monitors with DVI connections. The LG Flatron E2242 monitor(http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-E2242T-BN), the Acer P235H monitor(http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/240883/acer-p235hbd-zwart/specificaties/) and the Acer GN246HL monitor(http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/382442/acer-gn246hl-(um-punt-fg6ee-punt-b06)-zwart/specificaties/).
I ordered these active adapters because I want to use these 3 monitors all at the same time.

I have connected the 2 Sapphire Active mini DP to SL-DVI on the mini-displayport connections of my graphics card. I saw that the package of the cables that they have an DVI-D connection. But after I opened the packages I saw that the cables have DVI-I connections.

I know that the DVI-I connection carries Digital and analog signal while the DVI-D connection only carries digital signal.

I have connected the cables as following:
The mini-displayport from my graphics card with the Active mini DP to SL-DVI adapters. On the DVI-I connection of the adapters I plugged in DVI-D cables. These cables go to the DVI-D inputs of my LG Flatron E2242 & Acer P235H monitors.
Now, when I go to the Windows screen configuration both monitors connected to the adapters won't show up. I find this very strange because this should mean that either my never used mini-displayports are both broken or the adapters are both broken. But it also could be that I perhaps made the wrong connections?

Do you guys know how to get this working?
I'm thinking of retouring the adapter cables because I'm not able to find a solution.
I'm getting really desperate.

Thanks in advance!

Rody

Ps: I've also posted this in the graphics card section but now when I rethink I think it better fits in the Display section. I don't know how to delete the other thread (nevermind someone already deleted it, thanks!)

Dear forum, is there anyone who can help me out.

Below I'll give a summary of the things I tried.
I am hoping for suggestions.
Could you read the following summary of my problem. Thanks in advance!

At tuesday 29 March 2014 I ordered the following graphics card at 4Launch:
Sapphire Videokaart PCI-e Radeon R9 280X Toxic 3GB
I think that there is something wrong with the never used miniDP connections on this graphics card. Below I’ve described why I think so.
After almost 2 years in possession of this amazing card I’ve bought a third monitor. I now want the graphics card to run all 3 monitors at once.
I saw on the website of Sapphire that the graphics card supports 4 monitors. I also know that a requirement for Eyefinity is that all monitors must run on the same resolution and refresh rate. All my monitors run on 1920x1080 with 60Hz. So that was not the problem. I’ve listed the specifications of my computer under this summary.
These are the connections of the monitors and graphics card:
The Sapphire Radeon Toxic R9 280X 3G D5 has the following connections:
- Dual-Link DVI-I
- Single-Link DVI-D
- 2x Mini-DisplayPort
- HDMI
The Acer GN246HLBBID monitor has the following connections:
- VGA
- HDMI
- DL DVI-D
The Acer P235H monitor has the following connections:
- DVI-D
- VGA
The LG Flatron E2242 monitor has the following connections:
-15 pin D-SUB (VGA)
- DVI-D
Now the first thing I tried was:
Toxic R9 280X - HDMI port - HDMI cable - Acer GN246HLBBID
Toxic R9 280X - Dual-Link DVI-I port - DVI-D cable - Acer P235H
Toxic R9 280X - Single-Link DVI-D port - DVI-D cable - LG Flatron E2242
With this setup I could see all 3 monitors in Windows configuration center. But I could only enable 2 of the 3 monitors at once. On whatever setting I tried I could only enable 2, I was freely to choose which 2.
Then I red that maybe with Active miniDP adapters it should work. Because many graphics only support up to 2 connections because there are only 2 chips in the graphics card.
So I then ordered 2 Sapphire Active mini DP to SL-DVI-D Adapters (http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/287395/sapphire-kabel-active-mini-dp-to-dvi/specificaties/ ) .
They are from the same manufacturer so I thought that my problem was fixed and that there were most likely no compatibility issues. I tried the following:
Toxic R9 280X – mini DP- Active mini DP to SL-DVI-D Adapter -DVI-D cable - Acer GN246HLBBID
Toxic R9 280X - mini DP- Active mini DP to SL-DVI-D Adapter - DVI-D cable - Acer P235H
Toxic R9 280X - Single-Link DVI-D port - DVI-D cable - LG Flatron E2242
Only the LG Flatron E2242 gave response and displayed Windows like there was only one screen connected. When I tried different monitors to the adapters I came to the following conclusion:
Whatever monitor I connected via the miniDP gave no display.
In Windows configuration settings the monitors connected to the mini DP didn’t even exist. I also didn’t hear any “plop” Windows sound when I plugged the cables in my graphics card.
Strange. This meant that either new adapters are both broken or the never used miniDP connections on my graphics card don’t work.
I imidiately searched for help on various forums and contacted SiComputers ( the company where I ordered these cables), I also contacted the service of Sapphire.
I got a few suggestions such as in Windows configuration settings; set the energy option on high performance mode. Maybe Windows could have disabled the ports because of power saving options. But setting this option to high performance didn’t fix the issue. Still nothing happened.
I’ve also tried reïnstalling the latest version of the drivers(Radeon Software Version
16.4.1 Crimson). This also didn’t help.
I’ve tried installing older drivers to see if this could fix the problem. I’ve tried AMD Catalyst 14.9, but this also without any succes.
Eventually I completely reïnstalled Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. This solved unfortunately nothing.
Then I decided to buy an Active Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter.
I’ve purchased the following adapter: https://www.allekabels.nl/mini-displayport-kabel/4971/1347943/mini-displayport-naar-hdmi-adapter.html
This adapter arrived today at my home and I’ve tried the following:
Toxic R9 280X – mini DP- Active Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter - HDMI cable - Acer GN246HLBBID.
This also gave no display on my monitor. When I connected another monitor on one of the other Toxic connections, these gave display. In Windows configuration settings the monitor connected tot he mini DP wasn’t available. Just like before(with the other adapters). I also didn’t hear a sound when I plugged the monitors in my computer via the miniDP connections.
Any additional cabling is all working. Thus, the DVI-D and HDMI cables are working when they are not connected to the active adapter.
I hope that you may have a solution to my problem. And I might have overlooked something very stupid. But it seems that the mini Display Ports on the video card have never worked.
I saw that the warranty on my graphics card last for 2 years. This has almost ended so I’m happy that I discovered that there might be something wrong with the card.
For the rest the card works like a charm so I find it strange that the Mini Display Ports do nothing. I would like to know if you have a solution?
Thanks in advance for your respons!

Kind regards,

Rody Mens
