R9 280X with 1x 8 PIN PCI-E and 1x 6 PIN PCI-E (Only have 2x 6 Pin PCI-E)

Hey everyone,

I have recently bought a MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming 3G Twin Frozr IV OC PCI Express Graphics Card.

I've realized that it comes with a 8 PIN PCI-e Power Connector and 1x 6 PIN PCI-e connector.


I have a Corsair HX850W, which has only 2x 6 PIN PCI-e Power Connectors.

I was just wondering whether the 6 PIN PCI-e Power connectors would be fine to use in the 8 Pin?

Your Corsair 850W should have six of these 6+2 pins PCIE. This is what they look like: http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpress6plus2
They can be used together with the 6 and the two extra pin to make a 8 pin PCIE connector.
