R9 290 and R9 390 crossfire?

I've got a Gigabyte R9 290. I heard recently that you can actually crossfire the R9 290 and the R9 390. I'm wondering, it this true?

I would take that with a grain of salt, but some users say that it works. Just be aware that the fastest card will run at the lowest cards speed.

Card A 1000 MHz Card B 1050 MHz, Card B will down clock to 1000 MHz while Crossfire.
