R9 290 idling @74C?

I normally idle around 40-43. However after I cleaned out my computer earlier today the GPU temps seem to climb to 74C and sits there even with just chrome and discord open. I check the crimson/radeon settings and there is nothing that seems to have changed from my previous settings. I've rebooted to see if that fixed it but to no avail.

This has never happened before and I am quite concerned as to why this is happening.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Odd. A couple things come to mind...
1) check what temps are booting to safe mode (no networking). The Crimson driver should not be loading, just the generic win driver. Disable as much stuff as possible running at window's bootup (check your tray)
2) Run a full virus scan and a malwarebytes scan.

Yeah, that's definitely too hot for idle. Is it possible you blew some gunk into the card's housing while cleaning the inside of the case? Or jammed one of the fans?
Check that the fans are spinning.
Take the card out and blow it out carefully. Hold the fan blades so they don't spin when blowing.

I checked to make sure there was nothing stuck in the fins of under/on the fans before I hooked it up to the MoBo after cleaning it. Fans spin just fine. The card seems to gradually ramp up. However I reinstalled the drivers and seemed to fix a few things.

The card no longer is idling at 74C instead it idles somewhere between 48-52C which is still higher than it was this morning.
I am planning to run some tests(play some games) on the card to see how it handles them.
Will update with results.

Edit: So I didn't even get to start the games up. I opened up uplay and steam then boom, gpu activity ramps up to 81% and stays there while the temps spike to 74C and stays there as well. I close steam and uplay but the gpu activity just stays between 75% and 81% while the temp stays at 75C

Hello so a quick update, but as of this morning(~8:00AM EST) I figured out that there was a bitcoin miner program running and I have quarantined and removed the program permanently from my system. I will be monitoring it for the next few hours.
Thank you for your help and insight.
