So my monitor is the BenQ XL2411Z and my gpu is a r9 290 toxic, i'm confused in regard how to set them up. After installing my gpu can i just plug in a hdmi cable into the back of the gpu and then into the back of the monitor? Is it that simple or am I being naive?

omfg thank the lord ahaha was worrying that it wouldnt be compatible and i'd have to cancel my order xD Thanks man! Just got confused about the monitor because it only has 1 hdmi port whereas other versions of the same monitor have 2 hdmi ports, why is it necessary to have more than 1 hdmi port?

Correct. One HDMI (or DVI or D-Sub) between monitor and card. You will always get a slightly better display with HDMI or DVI (digital) than D-Sub (analog).

You need a DVI-D to be able to push 144hz, hdmi won't work

wait i'm confused . This monitor has a "DVI-DL" option in the title:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HZF2JWA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
will that be able to support 144hz?

from my research it seems that:
1) DVI-DL is the only input method capable of supporting 144hz
2) HDMI can only support 60fps
3) DVI & VGA can support ???
