R9 290 Temperatures !

Hello!

I have an MSI R9 290 Gaming and it's temps are unbearable. It overheated so much that i couldn't game with all the stuttering and the low fps.

to be able to play on it i have to Lower the clock speed and voltage. In Afterburner when i'm about to start a game, i Put : Voltage -100 ~ Core 750 ~ Memory 1200

and even then it still gets to 92C and sometimes it even hits 95 and throttles.
That is even at 100% Fanspeed
Why is my card so hot? that even at those rates it overheats and throttles.

I've seen people go 1300 on the core and it baffles me. what's wrong here?

What is your ambient temperature? Yes the MSI cooler on the R9 290 is rather lacking in cooling the gpu chip.

There is a heat wave going on and ambients now are 40C but it was doing that well before the heat came.

I think he means a period of hot weather at where he lives.

Yes that's right, So yesterday i changed the thermal paste. Temps improved, but not by much. it now sits at 93C and doesn't throttle. Mind you that this is still at -100 mV and 760 Mhz Core and 1200 Mhz Memory.

What is causing it to heat up like that ?

What fan speed is it running at when it's at 93C? Also, your high ambient temperature could be contributing as well.

I'd look into contacting customer support. How's the airflow in your case?
