I have a Gigabyte 290. Its served me well so far, but it is starting to struggle playing games maxed out even @ 1080 at ideally 60FPS. Games like Warhammer total war dip into the 20's, FO4 into the 30s (with text packs) etc.

Is the 1070 a big enough jump from the 290(non x) to warrant 450 bucks? I have 2 monitors, and possibly later this year i might finally make the jump to 1440 gaming also. I just dont like having 2 different monitors so have to wait until i can afford 2 of them :)
Thanks

I think it's your CPU holding you back more than your GPU in that particular game to be honest, the 1070 in Fallout 4 and most other games would definitely be a worthy upgrade though.

Try TW: Warhammer at 1440p and you shouldn't notice much of a performance hit.

Yea, i understand it all comes down to how optimized a game is. TBH, i always suspected something was wrong with this card though. it would get into the 90's temp wise under load with fans maxed out. I know r9's ran hot, but i dont think this hot - and i have a good setup with good air flow. Im looking forward to the temp and noise reduction. Things as of now can get pretty loud 😉
