So I'm planning my new rig and the monitor I'll be buying will be a 2580x1080 native resolution 29" ultrawide one. Hence, I'm quite lost as to what graphics card I should buy - practically any GTX770 fits in my budget while R9 290 is a harder thing and while I would be able to fit it somehow, it's 1/3 more expensive than the GTX770 in my country. At the same time, I see no drastic gain when comparing 770 and 780 (and the price gap there is even larger) for ultrawide resolutions in games (4FPS tops from what I saw) so I'm clueless if it's a good idea to pay at least the $100 more for the R9 290. What would you suggest?

Solution
R9 290x. 512 bit Memory bus and 4GB of Ram. Far better. Im using an R9 290x to run a resolution 5760x1080p and get 60 fps on older titles. I will need to crossfire once I start buying newer titles. Also you generally reach a point of diminishing returns with the high end cards. The R9 290 is a "superior" card to the 770.
Also What resolution does the 29inch support? Keep in mind that you may treck into less supported resolutions.

R9 290x is out of consideration - as I said, even R9 290 means stretching my budget to the absolute maximum. As for the resolutions, the one I'm gonna be using is 2580x1080 though of course I know for some games I'll have to cope with black bars on both sides of the monitor cause apparently not every game supports it.

Sorry that was a typo, I meant R9 290. Its far better for that resolution and is only a few frames slower than the x version and better value. Its designed with large resolutions in mind. Also 2580x1080 is not the best supported resolution, maybe you are better off with a 1440p monitor? As most games use either 1080p, 1440p, a few use 5760x1080 and I dont know about 2580x1080.

Solution

Mhm, I see, thank you :) Yeah, you surely are right that 1440p would obviously give me better support as long as the number of games supporting it are concerned (it's still the most widely-spread ratio out there) but I always wanted to try ultra-wide or multi-monitor setups and so I'd rather stich to 2560x1080 to see how the cinematic 21/9 ratio performs in games :)

Do as you wish, happy days. I suppose you could always return it if it doesn't live up to your expectations. Interesting monitors, I would like to see one.
