Hi Guys,

I want to buy a new graphic card. i'm confused weather to buy R9 280x or R9 290 for 1080p gaming.

R9 280x is selling at INR 21500 (USD 359) and R9 290 is selling at INR 35000(USD 582). is it worth it to buy R9 290 over R9280x considering price gap of more than USD 230

my config as follows

AMD fx8320
Zalman performa cpu cooler.
Asus MA97 Evo R 2.0 motherboard
2*4gb Kingston hyperx ram @1833
Corsair HX 650 v2 @ Gold certified
Sapphire 7770 1gb GHZ edition(going to upgrade)

Please help?

Solution
Yes there is a huge price difference.
I bought my R9 280x in january and it costed me 26k.
not sure if the prices dropped this much, but i think 21k will be the HIS version. its sold for low price than other brands.
for 1080 R9 280x is enough.
and go for Asus DC top 2 or other variants which are better in cooling. this cards gets hot.
Have you tried looking at other stores? Not that I know anything about the economy of India, but the price difference seems too high to me. It should be about USD100. Maybe you can find the 290 cheaper somewhere else.

the 290 is obviously better... but not by 50 % as the price.
the 280x, with a decent psu can reach very close or even equal 290 performances, if it has good cooling, by overclocking. However, even at stock clocks it will max games at high/ultra for that resolution.
For long time thinking, you could consider the extra money for the 290 as an investment, even if its not a good money-performance deal at the moment. there will come a time when that extra power might matter

the cheaper i can get is for 34 k from online store. but r9 280x is available for 21.5k . that is the problem.

Dunno... in a whole India, a country with more than a billion people there is no more purchase options?

Well go 280X if you have to, but really, I think you did not search hard enough... I live in a country with like 7 million population in the Middle East and I can basically go outside, spit and it will hit at least 5 different PC retailers.

thanks for the reply. the problem here is quite different. r9 290 is still expensive here and r9 280 x is still selling at INR 21.5 k. the cheapest for R9 290 is 32.5 k with reference design.

The one available for 21.5 k is now 19.9 k after discount is the Sapphire dual x edition.

http://www.snapdeal.com/product/sapphire-dualx-r9-280x/1877106753 using Flat7 coupon code i can get it for INR 19872

I would recommend not even considering reference R9 290's unless you have custom liquid cooling in mind. The stock cooling solution is not really sufficient to keep it from throttling often, and that may be even worse for you if you live in the hotter parts of India.

I recommend Dont buy from snapdeal.. There are lot of negative review about this site.
anyone can sell their products mentioning them as New.
Its even risky if they show that less for this card.

Thank you for your concern. i have had the same concern before started shopping with snapdeal. but till now i have got products cheaper than that of market price with quality. not even one return shipment happened till now. hope this time too it will delight me:bounce:
